Yus!....I heard this one earlier today for the first time.

And I agree, Hyperdub is fucking awesome. Planet Mu is another amazing label.

:werd:

To each his own, but I'm glad to see more goodness and stuff along the lines of my "flavor" in this thread :yesnod:...

Only time I can dig the heavy brostep stuff is at live shows, and usually if/when I'm drunk haha. I've noticed if I take LSD at shows/parties where lots of brostep is played I become incredibly jaded and analytical about what's being played :snub:  . But for the most part, I'm over the heavy stuff, occasionally I'll get in the mood for some classic "filth"...Even then, only in small doses.

Perhaps it's just me, but it almost seems as if garage/future garage sounds are growing in popularity also. I don't know all that much when it comes to the history of dubstep, but wasn't dubstep birthed from garage in a way?...

I  garage sorta sounds, as well as techno influenced stuff. Dubtech or what ever you want to call it...

So I'm curious what you dubstep enthusiasts (or some could say - elitists ) consider brostep and what not -

I'm assuming you mean dub that's built upon extremely high mixed wobbly bass and primarily Kick-1 Snare/Clap-3 patterns...
Something like this?

Definitely digging Egyptrixx, thank you!
You guys ever hear of edIT (idm/glitch genre)? Really interesting mixes, or more like melodic cacophonies if I can make that counterintuitive description. .

I'm not going to go through the first 58 pages so these could be re-posts but here are some of my favorite dubstep tracks:

Mamas and the Papas - California Dreamin' (Minnesota Remix)

Saw this guy at a show, he's very good. He also has a remix of Juicy by Biggy that's worth checking out.

Benny Benassi - Satisfaction (J.Rabbit Remix)

I know, another Satisfaction remix... Not this one. Very good dubstep integration and not the typical heavy womping that a lot of dubstep has.

Pendulum - The Island (King Minos Remix)

Let me know what you think if they're new to you.

I just concurrently played every video on page one and felt like I entered a 5th dimension where wars were fought solely through instrumental clashes.

I consider "Brostep" to be all that heavy, mediocre produced stuff....That video you posted is a fine example of brostep. Producers like Excision, Datsik, Bassnectar, Borgore, etc all fall into the category of brostep IMO....

I think the Urban dictionary defines it best though>>>

Brostep is a relatively new sub-genre of music (born out of Dubstep micro-genre) which has no emphasis on soul.

The goal appears to be to produce music as fast as you possibly can, without placing any emphasis on quality.

Unlike Dubstep where sub bass is key, Brostep places more emphasis on ratty high frequency samples and oscillators that arent even low frequency. Toss in a few hip hop vocal samples and you are well on your way to being the worlds next big Brostep producer.

Brostepper - Man, I cant wait to see Rusko & 6blocc.

Dubstepper - Man, I cant wait to see Mala & Kode 9.

Speaking of brostep, here is an interesting video of what Rusko has to say about "brostep">>>>

After hearing that, I have a wee bit more respect for Rusko...But at the same time, dude sounds full of him self, saying that he's the reason and the one who created "brostep"

As I already said, I can dig it...There's a time and place, sure it is fun to rage out sometimes at live shows but even then I get tired of it after a set or two. I can't stand it when someone throws down a set from beginning to end full of nothing but "face melting" tracks....And there are most definitely heavy hard hitting songs that are well produced and creative, but most of this shit today is just that....SHIT.

It's all about the deep, melodic, lush, dubby, soulful sounds :smirk: . Stuff that you can actually dance and get a groove to.

:2cents: on the matter...

I agree mostly with what you have to say about it... I don't like the tag 'brostep' much  though It draws a lot of parallels the metal worlds equivalent: there is deathcore whose equivalent to the wobble is the breakdown... then there's brocore which is just like... ALL breakdowns.
Shit sucks.

I still like a lot of hard, heavy, wobbawobba dub for parties, working out and such... and its fun as hell to dance to (when I'm rolling out of mind) but I would like to see much more melodic play and texture in tracks as well - not many producers I've heard have found a good balance between the two.

The rusko video is kinda funny, he does seem a bit stuck up - declaring that he created brostep and deciding what dubstep should be about and not  If he doesn't think metal and dubstep/brostep are actually very closely related then he should analyze the drums and structure of the songs in the genre a bit more.... Deathcore often uses the same build up breakdown formulas - as well as the same half time feel triplet kicks during the breakdown/wobbly parts. My dancing style for heavier dubstep is rather similar to that of my deathcore dancing style

Here is my 2nd attempt at making a mix....It's on the techy side of dubstep.

Due to the limited amount of music I have on my computer the mix is pretty much entirely composed of 2562, Martyn, & DJG...For this being my second go at making a mix I'm happy with it, though it's basic & the transitions are simple and not the smoothest  .

I'm not trying to hop on the bandwagon and be a DJ, just mixing for fun...

Eskmo definitely has some variety, I could listen to his self titled album on repeat. Haven't heard amphibian, thanks for the post!
His song Cloudlight really puts me in a good place:(not frogstep)

Just came across Vaski too, I dig it.
