Yea, be here about a month & see alot of conflicting teks. But I have noticed they are all trying to help us noob's out. Everyone has there own method that they will swear to and I'm sure that we will to someday. At least there is some place to turn to for a starting point. I garden durning the summer & get board in the winter, so shroomen seemed like something to do. after watching a video I was hooked and went & bought what I could in bulk. Living in the N.E. it is hard to find some items in the winter, but I'll be prepared for next winter. I have my 1st grow incubating now & it should be ready in the next 3 wks. I figure if it is sucessful I can then mess around with other teks. Good Luck To U

If I were you guys I would start getting my bricks here.
Its 5 bucks for 3 packs. With a 6.99 flat rate shipping. I get 100 pounds of coir for ~ 1 dollar a pound shipped including the shipping. Plus they send emails w/ free shipping over $60 coupon codes to me.
So I get 30 bricks, ~ 100 pounds, for $100 shipped to my door.
I'd check the link.

Running it thru a blender is nothing more than a pain in the ass, but I figured that I have 4cbf. so I might as well use it. I will eventually do something other than PF-Tek. Would the coarse be ok for casing use?

Blender it is then. Next time I go that way I'll stop & get a bag of med. Its about 35 miles away, so I don't go to that city very often, & I have a blender & a case of beer.

I guess I should have said a little less than a case of beer as I turned WBS into WBSF. A grinder, a few beers, a little smoke & wola, WBSF.

The standard Hoffmans horticulture verm that I see everywhere is the medium. It is 8 bux for and 8q bag here lol I gotta check the shipping on the 4 cu feet bag but at 16.50. That is going to be the way to go even with shipping. Coming from 1 state away can't be that much. Even if I pay 40-50 for shipping it's still worth it.
And for the record I have never even seen a whole foods store in my life lol Healthy organic food stuff...wtf is that! Maybe it exsists somewhere in my state. Though probably not because we are ranked in the top 5 most obese states lol

Go to wally world if it is closer and pick up some jiffy mix. Just use that for your casing. I recently bought a bag for 4 bux. Generally mix my own but thought I would give this a try.
Jiffy mix for the casing that is..

Wow that is the exact same shit I buy here at the somewhat local pet store. It is 6.99 for one brick and 18.99 for the pack of 3

Fucking right mang! I was actually going to pm you and ask where you got yours cause I seen the debate in the distinguished teacher thread and noticed you saying you pay a dollar a pound.

Yea, CH HELL is ridiculous. I don't care what he says. At a dollar a pound I will cut any amount of poo 50/50 with it.
Even if you own your own horses there is always a limit to how much poo you can aqiure.
I don't care what he says. If I have 1 ton of poo I am turning it into 2 ton of sub and spending the couple grand on the coir.
2 tons is going to put out a lot more than one.
YOU NEED TO SPEND MONEY TO MAKE MONEY!
At least in this world anyway.
End of story.

for the record, unless you're buying shitload at one time amazon is cheaper
the site you just listed is 5.15 for 3 bricks, plus 6.99 shipping
amazon for 3 bricks - 3.79 + 5.99 hipping lol

I know. They aren't the cheapest. Its the shipping. Its flat rate. A google search will find them cheaper. But if you try and order a 10 pack of 3brick packs then it starts costing 25 bucks to ship. As it hits 50-100 pounds. The shipping gets nasty.
You are right though. For smaller Amazon all the way
I like to stock up though. It keeps the deliveries to the house at bay.

Maybe we should try our member shipping process. Just thinking. If I can buy a product that is available in my area and pass it down the line like a bucket brigade to the next member who then passes it on to the next & so on. I know I just paid $44.00 for 25lb of rye because I cannot get rye this time of year here. It would take alot of trust, but I think this is a close net community and could possibly work. Any thoughts.

The following is how the three different types should look
Fine

Medium

Coarse

The latter is the better for what I do.
In my experience, fine is better for everything including bulk substrates, hands down.
In another post above someone said to double up if using fine verm. Actually it's the opposite. Fine verm holds a lot more moisture per unit of measure than course or medium. Remember, to a strand of mycelium which is only one cell in thickness, fine verm is like the Grand Canyon to an ant.
To anyone stuck buying small bags of verm, contact thermorock.com to find a dealer in the 3 cubic feet bags near you.

Gosh, I have to drive almost three hours and cross two mountain passes to find a town of 1500. Our county seat is 30 miles away from me with total population of 640. Wouldn't trade it for anything though. RR

I agree it is nice and I do dream of the 400 acres or so with my house smack dab in the middle. Preferably beside a river or creek with no access except by some type of trolly/lift carrying you across the river and up the steep mountain side.
With the fine verm I was quoting something read earlier. Someone else had a rebuttal with pretty much what you said. More air pockets in the coarse affecting it this way or that. In the end what are we talking though....as far as yield using either. 1-2% sway in either direction? I've been using the medium 1q with a brick of coir, 1/2 q gypsum , 1 half q of EWC. I get between 540-780g first flush. I'll use dif ratios of sub vrs spawn. Sometimes less yields more and vice verse. Suppose it's all genetics until I get down to working with a mono culture I won't really know whats best.

So if using fine verm in bulk, your supposed to use only one qt? I'm sure it doesn't make that big of difference though? Or does it? Compared to adding 2/3 qts?
