Weight Lifting question

Im pretty knowledgable when it comes to lifting but I am curious about one thing.
Sometimes due to life I am not able to eat as much as I need to. For example, I missed a meal last night, went to bed with hunger pangs and I woke up with hunger pangs. I felt washed out, my tendons ached and I usually get this one familiar feeling when I dont eat. My jaw feels really small or weak. lol. That may sound wierd, but thats what happens.
If I missed a meal here and there how severe will the impact be as far muscle growth goes? Will I lose what I have? How fast does a person lose muscle? Does it happen even in one night?

I don't think you'll lose muscle over night. But if your muscles get worked out a lot and are consistently healing themselves from the trauma you put them through, missing a meal will starv them of the nutrients they need to facilitate that process - and will likely hurt/be sore as a result.
I really dont know anything about working out - but thats just waht makes sense to me
just a deduction though.

you will lose muscle if your really working out hard.. you wont shrink but you will impact growth.. before and after a workout there is a prime "window" in which your body can make the most of the food you have eaten.. you should eat differently in each window for energy before and for repair after.. im not going to get into it because theres plenty of info on the internet about this but in short.. if your trying to bulk up you need to eat right.. lots of calories lots of carbs even.. just lots.. i cant seem to afford to eat enough.. but im my biggest and strongest for sure on the days that i do.. also.. eat a variety of things.. if you eat the same thing everyday your body wont grow as well either.. think of your body like a mushroom substrate kinda.. the more diverse your diet the better your gonna grow.. and monosaturated fats and omega fattys are good for a healthy male hormone production.. so peanutbutter and fish here and there.. also.. genetics help too if your tryin to get heeuuuge..

No you're right meams, after working out you need a few good solid meals for nutrients so you can repair more (mostly during sleep - main anabolic timeperiod that rests and repairs the body/muscles because when you work out you putty a heavy strain on the body and deplete important nutrients along with a ramped metabolism... its important to get things back in order
You won't really lose muscle, though, repairing will just be impaired...

Not really. The body ALWAYS makes the most of the food it gets, the only thing that happens is your metabolism is raised with better circulation, the only purpose of eating is to get nutrients back in you (vitamins, electrolytes, proteins, fats, carbs). Now, there is a time frame of about 1 hour to eat to replenish Muscle Glycogen (which would increase recovery rate and decrease fatigue)
But it has nothing to do with making better use of food, just sayin

its everywhere dude..
Quote:
http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/berardi4.htm says.. While your post-workout feeding should be rich protein and carbohydrate, this meal should be fat free. The consumption of essential fats is one of the most overlooked areas of daily nutritional intake but during the post workout period, eating fat can actually decrease the effectiveness of your post-workout beverage. Since fat slows down transit through the stomach, eating fat during the post workout period may slow the digestion and absorption of carbohydrates and proteins.
As your post workout feeding should be designed to promote the most rapid delivery of carbohydrates and protein to your depleted muscles, fats should be avoided during this time.
Finally, another important factor to consider is the timing of this meal. It is absolutely crucial that you consume your post-workout meal immediately after exercise. As indicated above, after exercise, the muscles are depleted and require an abundance of protein and carbohydrate. In addition, during this time, the muscles are biochemically "primed" for nutrient uptake.
This phenomenon is commonly known as the "window of opportunity". Over the course of the recovery period, this window gradually closes and by failing to eat immediately after exercise, you diminish your chances of promoting full recovery. To illustrate how quickly this window closes, research has shown that consuming a post-exercise meal immediately after working out is superior to consuming one only 1 hour later.Quote:

Yes, it repeats exactly what I said. You made a claim that the body somehow makes better use of the food, which is not the case. It says nothing about that

sounds like dehydration. Drink more water. You should pretty much always have something you can eat - a .75 cent granola bar, a hardboiled egg, a half pint of milk, something - before you work out

You wont lose muscle like someone else said. It will effect your workout though and your recovery. If your going to spend time hitting the weights, why waste it? Eat your meat boy!
