I have Agar, and I am convinced it's the way to go, but will a still air environment be good enough for that kind of work? can't afford to make a HEPA at the moment...

not trying to :jacked: by the way... I ask because I'm currently working with LC's like the OP

You can use agar in a glove box.

Just make sure to be extra clean and if any contams get in there ( this is the reason why we use agar) you can just transfer a good piece of culture away to a new plate.

You can also isolate for rhizomorphic growth with agar, which is what you want with cubes, and you can't do that with an LC.

Really,.... Agar is the way to go.

To the OP I don't think RR was knocking you for doing LC's. If you ask me they are good practice working with live cultures.

However, he is definitely correct by eluding to the fact that LC work is not the proper way of doing things by saying he "doesn't recommend them".

Mainly due to the risk of crop failure which he mentioned. For the serious grower it is just not worth it to lose hours of work, and finances in the form of supplies, and energy to all due to a little short cut like using an LC.

It is just a lot safer to use Agar than liquid sugars when it comes to culture work from a Pro's point of view. In the long run it actually saves a lot of time once you learn how to do it, i.e. grow cycle timeline, etc.

Well i will most likely venture into agars when i feel its right, my gf will actually be able to assist in this matter, her being a microbiologist. But im happy where i am in the time being. Thanks for all the input and advice:)
