multiple flushes with straw
    #1408952 - 03/25/03 02:47 PM (14 years, 8 days ago)

i am currently experimenting with wheat straw and cow dung compost. after my first flush should i flip the straw/dung substrate and re - case? or should i just let it sit in the terrarium? cold shock? rehydrate? any advice would be helpful. i am using a variety of different size fruiting tubs and several different strains with rye berries, alien substrate, whole brown rice, and hawks birdseed. i am using straw gods bulk tek to the letter and with the addition of the dung compost. my casing is 50/50 plus. my strains are pf classic, cambodian and creeper. thanks.

hey squarepeg,

you have a lot of competing info in your question, but i'll do my best. strawgod's tek is straw alone, no compost/dung, isn't it? you need to grow the substrate to 100%, then separate it into tiny pieces with a spoon, and spawn it with the pasteurised straw (or the pasteurised straw-compost mix). incubate 7-10 days.

some say case before the first flush, some say after. if after, you should scrape off all little pins, and reincubate for a couple of days.

Case right away.. keeps in the moisture , and if patched properly will give you a real nice first flush. ( not that uncased won't.. but that's my opinion )

Keep it in the terrarium (* spelling.... sorry) pick your first flush, if you pick it clean, just re-case.. if you pick and have a bunch of leftover pins , scrape the surface to remove leftovers-, and re-case. I don't bother re-incubating.

Sniff, Sniff... What's that smell???... ohhhhh.!!

Pot Free for another : nevermind.. never made it..
