Mushroom Id please. East Bay, CA. with pics

Habitat: They were growing in a large field and they were growing off of old cow patties in thick grassy areas.
Gills: Some white gills and some black gills. The spores so far seem to be black.
Stem: The stem ranges from about 1-8 inches. Thick stems and hollow inside.
Cap: .5-2 inches wide. Some caps have a nipple top. and some are bell-shaped.
Spore print color: black.
Bruising: I have not noticed bruising.
Other information: I've done my research and I believe these are a Panaeolus strain, but what?

mostly pan ants, but it looks like a mixed collection. 2 different sp. for sure in the 1st pic
don't assign attributes to the mushroom that you want to be there... this will end in DOOOOM DOOOOM DOOOOM
edit: looking closer at the 2nd and 4th pics, you might have some P. cinctulus. you can eat any of them that print black and no major harm will come to you
closer shots of the upper stem and gills would be good

Don't know what you mean by assigning attributes that I want to be there but okay I guess.

I think he means not to think that it's a certain Genus/species just beacause you want it to be that Genus/species.

I mean suggesting that they're castaneifolius when there are obviously more than one sp. in your bundle.
didn't mean to offend, but you've got some sorting to do there.

I was making my guess, I'm not aloud to that?
What if I told you people have eaten these mushrooms and they survived and tripped off them?

I believe you man.. good vibes. Just don't want to lose a fellow shroomerite.. those mycotoxins can be a bitch. But hey brother, if you know you'll be fine, then by all means, dine. good vibes, tho
p.s. - i don't want to use the word 'definitely', but i'm pretty sure the majority you have are of the Panaelous genus.. so should be fine

People I know have been picking these for years, they've always called them California Golden Caps and I've always been like WTF, never heard of anything like that and always assumed they were talking about Cyans until someone showed me where to find these "california golden caps". so I just wanted an ID. but it does look like there's 2 strains, being careful with that.

All of your mushrooms are Panaeolus papilionaceus.
If people tripped off these I would like a sample for microscopy, dna sequencing and a good herbarium deposit.
Multiple studies have reported that Panaeolus papilionaceus is active, but I have dismissed those as misidentificaions/sloppy lab work. I would like to be proven wrong.
I would like to sequence many active and non-active collections and see how close they are genetically. And check for microscopic differences.
How much did the people eat, how many people have tasted them, what were the details of the effects reported, and the duration?
It is possible that there are other chemicals that are not scheduled which are causing the effect. All members of Panaeolus contain interesting indole alkaloids, but most do not cross the blood brain barrier.
Are these fruiting now?

Thanks Rockefeller,
Someone gave me a bag of these dried and I only ate .7, I trusted the person I got them from but she didn't know what they were called so I was thinking is this girl trying to kill me?
I would say they're psychoactive but not potent like cyans or anything crazy like that. But I could of placebo-ed myself into tripping, possible but it did make me stay up all night long.
Other people told me they've tripped off these but they've all said that these aren't potent. People I know have been calling these California Golden Caps and I've always been like WTF, never heard of such a thing. I always assumed they were talking about Cyans 'til someone actually showed me these.
They are fruiting now and I've been told that these have been found in the East Bay from Spring time through November.

Good find and identifications by all none the less!
Would be very interesting had these some psychedelic properties...or do they?

Rafiikii, my brother, apparently I'm going to be the tester and eat at least a half eighth to an eighth soon.
I've gotten the okay that these are edible but I'm going to find out if these are hallucinogenic

I once ate a lot of panaeolus sphinctrinus because somewhere they said to be active... but they are actually not....
even active panaeolus are weak...... except for the copelandia genus
