Jesus man, maybe speculation and abstraction isn't for you.
Ever just thought, fuck it all? And then suddenly, it made perfect sense?
There's nothing but Now. All the abstractions like time, past/present/future, history, world, politics, philosophy, social issues, whatever, it's all bullshit ultimately. If it's not happening Now, it's not happening as far as you are concerned.
Also, it's all God's dream and this will never end, for any of us.

Isn't that where Diploid first arrived when he traveled from Cuba to the States on a huge inner-tube?

Perhaps people aren't lining up at bridges/cliffs because they fear that the eternal bliss religion promises them isn't actually real.
Or worse, they fear they are going "elsewhere". The unknown in itself is enough for most people to want to stay here. Here is concrete, here is knowable... (to an extent I suppose).

Why do we think life is so great? We don't even know the alternative.
What's the point of growing old? It's just more of the same, it's never going to magically change. In fact, it seems like it only gets worse, most old people seem pretty miserable.
It is a wonder people aren't lining up at cliffs/bridges, with religion promising eternal bliss and what not. That is like standing in the longest line at an amusement park, waiting for the greatest ride ever built, having a fast pass in your pocket, but not using it because you love waiting in line.
You would think the curiosity alone would claim more victims. I'm dying to find out what happens. Haha get it?

Then he fell in with the Cuban Mafia and now he's rich. This is truly a land of opportunity.

Well OP, if you truly think there's no point in living then why are YOU still alive?

Not even really any point in reproducing anymore either, considering overpopulation. You're basically just fucking the kid over by bringing him into a world that will have to deal with the shit that's going to go down in the next fifty years or so. We actually have it pretty sweet as a society, historically speaking. If I were you, I'd ride it out for all it's worth and try not to worry so much about making a life for yourself. Just live and accept that happiness comes and goes in relation to sadness.

Yeah I had that in there but decided to delete it.
I wrote this at 6 in the morning, 10 beers down, after a long drunken think session lol.
What got me thinking about all this was that all life is seemingly pointless. I mean, humans serve no purpose to the universe. How is our life any more important than a rat's?

Why does it matter? You're here now so just enjoy it..Like deCypher said, if you think life is so pointless and think death would be a better option why are you here? Of course I'm not giving you suicide advice or something by any means, but what seems pointless is to rant about life and it's worthlessness when you obviously still want to live.
Who cares even if it is pointless? There's plenty of things in life worth living for anyway.

Not really..because I was referring to the people that believe life should have a bigger meaning than just living life and enjoying it. Because apparently being happy and enjoying yourself isn't enough for some people to think life is worth living, if you understand what I'm saying.
You're right though, I should've worded that differently.

Not gonna lie, it sucks here. It is totally flat, and it's always so fucking hot and humid. I love nature, but our nature consists of nasty woods that are so thick you really can't walk through it, and if you try you will get cut to shreds by palmettos and you will get face fulls of banana spiders. We do have beaches, but all of them cost money, and they have no waves and are full of old people all year long. Not to mention the ridiculous laws in this ridiculously conservative state.

There are equally as many things worth dying for.

Maybe..maybe not. I'm an athiest so I don't believe in an afterlife. I won't know what waits til I die of course. But I'm more than happy to wait a while to find out.
