Colonizing tub smells slightly

One of my sealed colonizing monotubs smells faintly of sulfur. It is in a trash bag and I was supposing it is either a bacterial contamination (I hope not) or maybe just the built-up smell of the coir fermenting, or CO2 buildup or whatever. It has been going for a week now and the myc is only beginning to form patches at the surface (3.5" bed". The walls of the tub still have condensation. Any ideas? What should I do, just toss it? Can bacterial contams spread and ruin my grow room? I have 4 tubs going and they all smell faintly of this, though one in particular smells rather suspicious...

Bacteria won't jump from tub to tub & will NOT ruin your grow room/ house.
Colonizing bulk in trash bags is old bad info. See here for discussion.
Take them outta the trash bags. I had to toss out 3 tubs (luckily they weren't monos, but my GH tubs) due to letting them colonize in bags. They were in for a week & had a horrible smell (like fermenting jailhouse hooch). I left them outta the bag for 4 days & they never recovered.

This.
I don't feel like getting into it w/ you this early Doc..maybe later, so I'll just take this off the first page of that thread.

RogerRabbit said: Are you talking about plastic around the edges which will shrink with the substrate or putting the whole enchilada in a bag? I can't imagine why one would do the latter in the first place. It sounds like condensation hell, and besides it could block light, both of which are undesirable. RR
I'm assuming thomas is talking about putting his whole tub in a bag, not the colonizing substrate in a bag LINER in the tub...

Correct, I refer to containing the entire tub in a black trash bag. I will let them out now...the holes are uncovered though, should I seal them over with micropore tape? And won't ambient room light contribute to a trigger for fruiting, or is that not a big deal?
thanks

Seal the holes w/ duct tape. The lid will be enough GE for all of it, or you could tightly stuff poly-fill in the holes as Faceyneck & Prof. Pinhead do.
Light isn't that major of a pinning trigger. It actually helps colonizing bulk.

I've never pursued knowledge in a hobby with so much contradictory information as mushroom cultivation.... So from now on, tubs not in bags, ambient lighting acceptable. The lid is rather tight...should I use the micropore or duct tape?

Either one. I'd use whichever covers the hole completely w/out having to double tape...
yea, the problem is there's a lot of old/bad info out there. You'll start reading a post then someone comes in as is all "WTF? That book was published 20 years ago!"
I'd say, it's one of the quickest advancing sciences ATM, due to new technological breakthroughs that open an plethora of options for those of us.
I'd read through that thread I posted earlier about bulk tubs in bags. There's a lot of good info in there. Also the AMU Q&A is a good place to learn about bulk as well.
GL You'll be golden. You've got an amazing resource here w/ the shroomery & the Search Function

Yes I agree, i'm most grateful for the shroomery. My criticism is aimed more appropriately at the establishment, which creates an educational environment where an "underground and obscure" resource is the only available guidance... I spend far too much of my day cruising the boards here...
