Habitat: Cobweb dwelling species.
Gills: No gills.
Stem: 8 stems, spindly and hairy.
Cap: ...also hairy.
Spore print color: No visible spores.
Bruising: Thought it would be unwise to attempt to bruise this specimen.
Okay okay, so it's not really a mushroom at all.
Found this cool little fella building himself a home in my backyard and thought I would share it with you wonderful folks, especially as I know a few of you have an interest in arachnids and insects.
Hard at work:

Chilling in the new crib waiting for home delivery to arrive:

Hope you enjoy.
P.S. If anyone knows what type it is I would love to know, trying to work it out with good old google atm.

Yup I think thats the fella, I had narrowed it down to an orb-weaver but hadn't got any further.

Cool shots
I think the vic species is Eriophora biapicata. I've come to dislike these orb weavers... there are thousands (possibly an exageration) of them in my backyard and they only build their webs across walkways

I'm putting my money on Eriophora transmarinus as E. biapicatus is found in the West of the country.
These are all over Melbourne at the moment and I have at least one crawling on my face or back everyday. My workmate is scared of bugs so I like to put them in convenient places to hear him squeel like a little girl. No offence to our female members but he does squeal like a little girl.
They're harmless and make a great garden feature. Same as how Huntsmans make good house pets.

Ok, I did some research...
According to Volker Framenau E. transmarina is restricted to the northern parts of Australia (NSW above Sydney, QLD, NT and N.WA). The Melb museum says that E. biapicata is found in all states except Tas, but the CSIRO states that its occurence is only verified in Victoria.
This is E. biapicata due to the two small bumps on the end of the abdomen (which are what the name refers to).

I think it goes that E. transmarina has no bumps (maybe) and E. pustulosa has three. I have no idea about the other species that all look the same. There are also a number of orb weaver species in Vic that are so far undescribed.
It was interesting to find all this out... but remind me never to become an entomologist

I thought they studied insects? You can tell these by the two fewer legs protruding from the thorax.

Well, I was using it in the wider sense but if we're going to be technical...
I don't want to be an arachnologist either

Great work Watson!
I just referred to a book on my bookshelf and that's what it had inside. I will pencil in what you discovered.
I've been meaning to find out a little more about these as they are everywhere at present. In fact, there's many cool spiders around.

Hmmm how odd the more I research and the more comments I read these appear to be a very prevelant spider yet this is the first one i've ever seen. Have loads of other little 8 legged dudes getting round here just not these. Maybe I just pay attention to things more these days.
Glad to see it was interesting for some and generated some discussion, was a bit unsure about posting it seeing as, well it's not a mushroom haha.

I found one of his country cousins today. They're apparently very variable so it could be the same speces (I forgot to look at the bumps), or a similar Eriophora species.

There were also lots of Golden Orb Weavers (Nephila edulis). Some of them were huge, with the biggest ones body about the length of my thumb. The bright yellow webs were amazing.

Nearby a ladder was sticking out of a mine shaft
