Found growing on rotten wood, note the thick yellow strands of mycelium and what I think to be metabolites.

Anybody?

hmm. Very cool looking stuff!
I have no idea what it could be, but the yellow globs remind me of a jelly mold. The combination of thick rizomorphs and the yellow globs really is something I've never even seen a pic of...

What you refer to as "strands of mycelium" looks like a plant's root system in a symbiotic relationship with some fungus to me. The blobs are either slime mold or tree resin.

Yes, good points, I thought about that as well.
The blobs aren't tree resin, that I'm sure of, when touched they weren't sticky at all...

Yah, went back and they are grass roots, now I just feel silly.

Still a beautiful example of symbiosis in action though.

Piloderma fallax
I have this species growing on agar in my bedroom. It is actually the only species I have growing at the moment. The mycelium on the dish starts out white and turns yellow after awhile.

Why would you cultivate it?
Pulled up some grass right beside the half buried log and the roots looked just like the yellow strands.
Where root ends and fungus starts...

It could benefit from a higher f-stop to increase depth of field.
