that 2.5 jars of water works for me but search for "field capacity" to see how to judge moisture content for yourself
remember: too dry is better than too wet
but if u ever mix anything too wet u can just add more dry ingredients or plain verm to help

Okay i have a few questions.
how many quarts of spawn should it take to make a 69L mono?
Also here is a pic of what i am planing on using to create my bulk sub. still hoping i can find an alternative way to pasteurize it instead of using jars.

And do these jars look like they are ready to use as spawn?

I kno 2 of them look a little better than the others, should i give them more time? Their quarts

After pasteurizing straw, how do i go about draining, whats is the correct moisture content for straw?
Wouldn't a pillow case with a high thread count will be be okay to mix verm, coir, worm castings, straw, hydrated lime and gypsum then pasteurize it in the pillow case?
Doesn't the hydrated lime go in the pasteurizing water, not the bulk mixture?

well after reading a bit i think im going to use the pillow case method for pasturizing. Step on it to drain, and use the info from RR's "on horse manure" to judge the proper moisture content.

pasteurize the coir, verm, worm castings, etc in a 5 gallon bucket. If you don't have a lid use tinfoil. for the straw put it in a pillowcase/laundry bag and pasteurize it. Place an oven rack over your sink/bathtub and let it drain for a few hours.
Also, ar1es, how much BRF would you use per brick of coir?

ive never had a lot of BRF laying around so ive never put more than a little less than a quart in my bulk subs.
Ive read that BRF is the most nutritious substrate for mushies out there and there is a post where somebody made brf bricks and had great results so im sure brf is gotta be a great addition to any sub.
I think the problem with brf is that its so fine that it will condense on itself and not really be that easy for the myc to colonize because its so compacted. thats why pint jars are hard to make cakes in that colonize 100% every time.
the good thing about adding brf to bulk subs is that the other ingredients get the sub nice and fluffy and the brf adds a shot of nutes.
used coffee grounds is also an inexpensive ingredient that will do wonders to your harvests.

cool... i think i have some brf, ill throw some of it in there too.
So the hydrated lime is added to the pasturizing water rite? not to the bulk sub mix itself, or does it matter?

Thanks for the detailed info, I was going to do a coir tub but didn't want to add coffee due to PH problemsno lime/gypsum) or alleged increased contams (no lime/gypsum) and wanted a way to add some nutrients to my coir. Since i've already got some brown rice laying around im all set.
I've also heard a few people saying that BRF is the most nutritious by volume/weight.

I may be wrong, but tyvek may not provide sufficient FAE for a monotub
