Does using the microwave to sterilize spore water and shot glass work?? Anyone ever use a microwave to sterilize anything?

microwaves have no place in mycology, and definately not in sterilization...

I have yet to learn and search the forum for LC. I know nothing about it.

No, get a pressure cooker at a thrift store.
And what are you sterilizing? You don't have spores.
Also, forget about LC.

haters! i use a microwave all the time!! it sterilizezz water just fine!! just boil it harrd for a while! i have a pc too but im too lazy sometimes.. i have a new tek thats gonna make this real simple for a noob.. check my thread haterz.. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/14049567
if i were you id sterilize the water in a tupperware with the lid cracked a lil bit.. be sterile and use a GB or still air room when you perform.. water boils VERY hot in the microwave if you let it.. just boil hard and youll be fine.. i make my spore syringes this way TOO!!

also the biggest tip i could give you... figure things out for yourself.. seriously.. take risks.. if you have a limited number of spores be carefull.. other than that its easy...

He lives in Cali, if he gets spores they'll be priceless.
Best, safest, most secure way to utilize them is with agar. Pressure cooker, some agar flakes and malt, dishes or jars... not very expensive.

im sorry.. im not hating and you know your shit doc.. but i must disagree with you!! theres a tek out there using KARO and a MICROWAVE to create a sterilized liquid culture.. if this is possible than the microwave syringe is possible! i personally put the syringe in a tupperware with water.. i suck up half water half air in the syringe.. support the syringe out of the water by leaning it on the side of the tupperware and shutting the lid on the end of the plunger and nuke the mofo for 6 minutes.... once its done push the plunger down.. suck up the hot water.. let it cool in a sterile enviromment.. than put the spores into a ziplock bag by putting the print in the bag and scraping it on the inside of the bag with my fingers (on the outside).. be careful not to let any part of the print that you touched with your fingers to touch the inside of the bag tho.. than i shoot the water into the bag to suspend the spores and suck it back into the syringe.. to each his own but thats what i do... its worked for me so far.. ALSO i make my karo LC's in the microwave too! the link i posted is to my current experiment using ONLY the microwave!! EVERYTHING involved including the LC was with the microwave!! i didnt use the stove for ANYTHING!! but if you only have a limited amount of spores and want to guarantee success.. maybe go the extra mile and spend the extra hour to do it "right".... its hard to get spores where im at too.. but you gotta go thru trial and error to develope a tek that works for you..

1) water boils at the same temp inside the microwave as outside 2) any boy scout can tell you boiling doesn't sterilize water.
It's that easy. Maybe you get away with it. But it's not sterilization.
But a PC is like ten or fifteen bucks, so the whole conversation is hypothetical at best.

Your claims are in defiance of the laws of nature. If you want to raise the boiling point of water you gotta up the pressure. Works the same way the other way around. The higher up in the mountains you go, the lower the boiling point of water will be. Physics... it's amazing!

It works because you can make a karo LC without sterilizing at all. Ever seen mold growing in a bottle of karo, even when it's been in a nasty kitchen for years?
A car without an engine can go really fast down a hill, but it wouldn't be right to call it a fast car.
Don't take the above to mean I think anyone should make LC without sterilizing. In fact, I wouldn't suggest making LC at all, regardless of preparation method. There's better and faster ways of growing. RR

i HAD a karo lc with the green in it a while ago!! everything ive shot up with it has gotten green.. i think i introduced it for other reasons (plain laziness) because it worked before.. which goes to say.. a karo lc can be contam'd.. also i have karo lc's (all microwaved) that arent contaminated.. and are proven.. which also goes to say.. they can be sterilized in the microwave.. id personally say g2g is the best way.. and lc is just short of that in colonization times... i know you hate lc rr.. but in reality were talking about the water here.. so do you think that vigorously boiled water in the microwave is spore syringe worthy?? i sure as hell do.. thats what i been doin since day one.. now.. if im gonna get the pc out and fire it up ill go ahead and sterilize me some syringes that way.. its truly a pain in the ass for me to get it all out and do it just for a syringe.. plus you can boil the thing on high for 15 min if you want.. or longer.. id even bet you could get away with a pf jar microwaved.. which im also gonna try and prove as soon as i pick up some verm.. the pf tek can be performed at 212'f (100'c) and the water doesnt get any hotter than that at normal atmospheric pressure.. which is why we pressure cook.. id think the water thats boiling would be far cleaner than the jars contents right? i understand the concept of steam and all but the water would be the most steamed part of the mix really.. and closest to the heat source on the stove which is hotter than boiling.. also the microwave is known to superheat water in some instances exploding in the users face! this happens with smooth containers and clean water.. if you can see it boiling in the microwave your safe.. if its just chillin and not boiling and you know it should be.. its probably alot hotter than boiling point.. you should let it cool inside the MW so you dont get blown up on however in this instance it would be a favorable condition.. am i somewhat correct or what?
