First Grow Log (Some Pics)

This is my first grow, so pretty much everything I've been doing has been experimental. I'm open to any and all suggestions. I tried two different methods.
Method One: PFTek BRF Cake I got my first spores from sporestore (I was quick to find out that this was a mistake). I tested this syringe, inoculating on 2/28, in 4 half-pint ball jars using the the brf cake mix. Still no sign mescalin growth yet. Kinda losing hope for those 4.
The next spores I got were B+ And Cambodian strain from thehawkseye.com. These syringes looked a lot more potent and had visible spores floating around, unlike the sporestore ones I received. I inoculated 12 half-pint kerr jars with half of each strain on 3/2 also using the brf cake mix. Ten of these jars are already showing growth while the other two are lagging behind a little.
To make the substrate for the cakes I used the 2:1:1 method. After that I covered them in foil and placed them in the pressure cooker for 90 minutes at 15 psi, and let it cool over night. The next morning I inoculated them.
 From Walmart
Also from walmart. Made holes by heating a coffee can on stove. I injected about .5 cc's of solution through 4 different holes in each jar.

Here's the fruiting chamber. It has 1/4" holes drilled 2 inches apart on all 6 sides.
I put my incubating jars in my room with indirect sunlight at a temperature ranging from 74-80 degrees F. More pictures coming soon.
Method Two: Rye Berry Casing Method I bought quart size kerr jars and organic rye berries from an all natural grocery store. I soaked the grains in water for 24hours to remove the dust and dirt and then rinsed them well. After that I simmered them in a pot for about 10 minutes. After that I let them dry for about 30 minutes or until there was no excess water on the paper towel.

After drying, i filled the jars about 2/3 to 3/4 full and then pressure cooked them 90 minutes at 15 psi. I left them overnight to cool after and proceeded to inoculate them the next morning with about 1-2cc's of solution.
The rye berry jar on the far right is another sporestore tester.
I threw out an earlier one I made already due to green mold (probably from not using a glove box in my first attempt; Sad bc it had alot of mescalin growth but rather be safe than sorry). I inoculated all the rye berry jars on 3/5. Should be expecting some growth signs soon. Also, I have one more rye grain jar that is in the pressure cooker right now. More pictures and posts to come. Let me know what you guys think.

Kind of looks like the GE holes are a bit small for the quart jars, everything else seems good

haha I knew I would fuck up somewhere, but alright ill move it. I feel the indirect sunlight has really helped my cakes out a lot though so Im going to try to keep my fc out of a closet. I bought a pack of lids, but what do you mean by making better lids? Just make the holes bigger? Still two holes though right?

I use two 1/4 inch holes in my lids covered with tyvek filter...Works great. The lids you have are fine, the holes are just a bit small.

I think they are tyvek. Atleast go buy a tyvek painters suit or something. Your lids will be fine like that, but making the holes bigger, and adding silicone will always be the way to go.
Or use polyfill....

Wait it says tyvek on the envelope so I think im good. So polyfill can be found at walmart right? Just to make sure you have tyvek under your lids? Or do you just use polyfill?

If you want lids like what I posted. Go to walmart and find the craft section. polyfill is cheap as hell. Drill two holes, 1/4 inch or whatever you prefer. In the one hole, pump a nice glob of RTV silicone. (injection port) In the second hole, shove some polyfill in there to form a ball.
Your set.
Using tyvek always seems odd to me. (unless im making a LC)

I use the cut up tyvek paint suits for filters. My method is just use two 1/4 inch holes with tyvek over them like you did. Then after I inject using my still air box I cover the inoculation hole with micropore tape...

Yeah I know what you mean doesn't seem to trustworthy to me. How is it possible to inoculate your jars through the silicone? I had to open my jars in my glove box bc my needle wouldn't even touch the grains through the lid. I understand I couldnt bc my holes are to small, but with the silicone wouldn't it restrict the needle from being able to inject into the grain also? Sorry for all the questions just dont want to lose another jar to contam it sucks seeing mold take over.

Is there a difference between the tyvek I have and the tyvek from paint suits? Also, I looked for microspore tape, but didn't have any luck..

You don't have to get "into" the grains to inoculate. Just squirt towards the grains in 4 "corners". I just squirt a tiny bit more than 1/4 CC in 4 directions towards the glass...It will run down don't worry. You will be able to penetrate the silicon. It is self healing too...

RogerRabbit said: True, nothing is better than free shit, except perhaps shit that actually works. Post office tyvek is mediocre at best, and downright crappy at worst. Synthetic filter disks are best, polyfil is perhaps second best, but be sure to keep it dry, and thick kite or garmet grade tyvek would be a distant third, while the post office tyvek is a very far fourth choice. I've used them all. You can't expect something no thicker than a piece of paper to perform a function as well as something manufactured for the purpose. RR
Post office tyvek isn't great. RR also recommends tyvek paint suits which are better than that post office shit....But can't withstand more than 2 younds through the PC....Ide rate tyvek paint suit filters over polyfill....but not as good as tyvek filter discs

You put the tyvek on after pcing? sounds kinda iffy. Grab either the red rtv silicon (its high heat) or the clear silicon. Whatever you find, or whatever you want. Pollyfill is pollyfill. Goodluck!

Filters go on before PC'ing. I have never used polyfill. You don't NEED a silicon injection port but its all up to you my friend.

Yeah put them on before you pc. Same with the polyfill of course. Just make sure you put the foil over your jars. I like the port, it looks better and works better. After shooting through micropore tape for sometime, its a big upgrade in my book.
