Now, if anyone can provide any insight into the thread's topic, I'd appreciate it.
One thing I'm unclear of is the issue of Israeli settlements in land that was occupied after the six day war (or others). I've heard some relatively convincing discussion on how these settlements are illegal as war crimes, but I'm not sure on the specifics and reliability of the claims I've heard. What exactly is Israel's role in the establishment of these villages? Are they expelling owners or depriving them of their rights? Are they discriminating on the basis of religion, ethnicity, in admitting residents? Or, are these just Israeli communities set up by a developer who admits whomever he wants without much involvement of the government?

I'm not an expert on this, so my statements below may be erroneous.
> What exactly is Israel's role in the establishment of these villages?
I believe that the state of Israel "owns" the land being used to establish the settlements. I use "owns" loosely as the land was captured in an act of war. Of course, almost all land currently owned by various governments was captured in an act of war. At a minimum, I believe Israel approves permits for the building of the settlements, and may go so far as to fund the building.
> Are they expelling owners or depriving them of their rights?
My understanding is that the land being developed is vacant, but was owned by somebody else before the war. Also, Israel is not building new settlements, but they are expanding existing ones.
> Are they discriminating on the basis of religion, ethnicity, in admitting residents?
I don't know. I do know that the settlements accept thousands of migrants per year, but I do not know the background of the migrants.
