Attachments pretty much explains everything. Its not good or bad, it just is. People that treat others badly do so because of connection to a set of experiences which have shaped their particular outlook on things. Love is nothing more than a form of attachment as well, but instead of being attached to a particular person you can be attached to the cosmic consciousness in a very general way, in turn being able to appreciate and love every aspect of this experience and every person you meet. Of course there is a wide gradient to such an experience based on a particular perespective determined by a given set of attachments. The gradient can range from general acceptance of our fellow conscious beings, to a buddha or christ-like love of everyone.

I try to treat everyone with at least neutral respect. I don't even do things to make people uncomfortable, even if they're making me uncomfortable. I do, however, always seem to have miss communications with people. They take my stand-off, quiet, no small talk, uncaring attitude personally, whenever in reality I just want to be left alone.
People taking things too personally is going to keep us from loving each other. The world and everything in it is much easier to love when we are no longer focusing on our egos and desires in our spotlight consciousness.

It's like any other transaction.
Not saying it's always like that for me. Just that I say "I love you" less than I used to.
Sure do. I also know what it's like to have someone tell you they love you, and know they are only saying it to hear it back.
Yeah.
I suppose I'm a little stunted in this regard but I only became fully aware of this fairly recently. Self-enquiry. It's a bitch.

There's a lot to be said about appreciating what is rather than looking for what is to appreciate you. I'm not sure why, but it seems to change things drastically.

Self inquiry teaches you to look at what you are, not at what appears in front of you
If you say something about what you are seeing then you are not Inquiring into the Self, the Seer

Well when looking at what Cups described, attachment to the idea of being loved when the reality of that idea isn't present. As long as reality aligns with the idea, then no problem is seen. But seeing a disparity is disheartening and disillusioning when attachment remains. Or when hope remains. Or when any desire in any way remains. And most don't know how to be rid of these things, and that makes looking at the reality of a situation quite a problem indeed.
Here is my attachment. There is reality. I am amidst the rifting that causes suffering. Self examination can become quite painful.

It's examining what appears on stage. Which naturally happens in the mind.

If what appears on stage is the mind, then what is the stage?

Without getting into a debate of mind vs Self...I'd describe it like peeking at your christmas presents early.
You're pretty sure it's a great idea when you do it...then christmas comes and it sucks.
Or knowing the secret behind a magic trick. The "magic" is gone and the best you can do is admire someone who does it well.
