RIP Mr. Mushrooms * 10
    #14080965 - 03/07/11 01:04 PM (12 years, 11 months ago)

I just learned from a thread in the Veteran's Lounge that Mr. Mushrooms died on January 18th from pancreatic cancer.  He was 55.

It's hard sometimes to remember that there are real people behind all the text on this forum.  I enjoyed debating with MM and definitely had several interesting ontological and ethical arguments over Instant Messaging.... and now he's gone forever.  May his philosophizing soul rest in peace.

RIP :peace::mushroom2:

We fought a lot but that's to be expected.  I'd be glad if his suffering was minimized.  Same for me in a few years.  In the end it's the pain that's a bitch i'm guessing.

I had a love/hate relationship with the man; nevertheless he supported me when I was in a deep depression and for that I am always greatful.

Perhaps his sometimes caustic nature was a result of his struggle with his illness and fear, I dunno.

I do know that he probably contributed more knowledge to several of the mushroom-specific forums than probably any other member.

I will miss crossing swords with the man.

Hope you found peace, Ken.

Finally you'll get some respect.  (however phony)

This thread will live a few more days - and then it will as if MM was never here.

Life goes on...

BTW, if you are smart like me (fat chance) you will write your own eulogy now before it is too late.

I remember posting a couple of years ago about my grandmother dying of cancer, and Mr. Mushrooms was among those who offered the most support.

We had several protracted debates here that were always civil despite strong disagreements, and he made to sure to let me know he appreciated our discussions.

While I didn't always like the way he responded to other people or their way of arguing, he had a strong character and ultimately, I think, a lot of compassion. And, irrespective of any pros and cons, he was here.

Requiescat in pace

He decided I was out to get him pretty recently, sending me long private messages, making weird comments on the board about me and others "stalking him," and left a weird rating for me accusing me of plotting against him and stuff.  I always thought we had civil discussions before that- I know Zouden and I along with others would debate his intelligent design stuff with him (before he quit discussion it).  I wonder if his illness had anything to do with that kinda strang turn of events?  It happened pretty close to his end

It was kinda weird, cuz it happened out of the blue

I went through the same thing with him. (as did OC and others) He PMed me a lot for awhile until we came in disagreement on one of his sacred cows.    He was half nuts for sure and scared of death.  Tormented by a fucked up childhood that he couldn't come to grips with.  Oh well he's well out of it now and we can afford to say nice things about him.

I remember that, it was pretty weird, and kind of funny in a way. I'm gonna miss all his bizarre little eccentricities, RIP Mr. Mushrooms. :peace:

Didn't know him, but anybody with the name "Mr. Mushrooms" sounds like a super cool, my-kinda-guy guy.

Yeah, that type of reply is a bit off putting.

Personally I think if you don't want to defend your argument you shouldn't make it.  Seems reasonable to me.

I was being polite in letting you know I don't have time to have one of the interminable dialogs with you.  Personally I think people should do as they please with the time they have.  I could have been a rude asshole and just left you hanging.  I had the common decency (something pretty rare around here) to at least answer you.

Every point I have made is self-contained, i.e. it is its own rebuttal.  That is, I gave reasons for the points I made.  But, like before when you didn't understand the points I made, you don't understand them now.  Sorry, that isn't my problem, it's yours.

There is only one thing worse than arguing over some stupid opinion thread: arguing about the arguing.  People who spend the bulk of their time doing that must not have a life.

Thanks for the tip though.  The next time you respond to me it will fall on deaf ears.  I'll ignore you as if you don't exist.
