grain failing to colonize casing

hey all

this guy i know had some rye grain jars colonized from honeywater. they were 100% colonized, and were in a relatively cool location for about 10 days before being transferred to casing. after two weeks the grain hasn't even regrown to the point where the mycelium and grain is a solid mass. reasons behind this are beyond him. casing used was 50/50+ with crushed limestone. the casing may have been a little dry when grain was cased, but was misted, so he assumed this wasn't the casing of the "mycelial failure" he hasn't check the pH, but that was the only other thing he thought it might be. any other ideas??

Sometimes with grain, it is easy to have it loose too much moisture, and drys out.

This happened to me when I tried to case some brf+verm cakes. I still wish I knew what happened. I cased them with verm.
