It's a similar process, but I'd recommend doing a clean install. It helps prevent performance and compatibility issues.

go into your bios and format the drive, then start the computer with your OS disks in and install.

Formatting from the BIOS was something we did back in the 1980s and early 1990s. These days, you just pop in a Linux live CD or another bootable disk/USB stick and remove all partitions. You can do this from the Win install DVD as well; in the partitioning menu, remove all existing partitions and have Windows install in a partition of your desired size.

cool. what would be an ideal size? im also going to stick with just win7. i dont want to confuse them with dual boot or anything else of that nature. i need to make it as simple as possible.

Then just make one partition the size of the entire drive. It's the easiest solution.

In this screen, delete any existing partitions and create a new one for Win7:

Windows will create an additional 100Mb partition for system purposes.

would a intel pent dual cpu T3200 @ 2.00Ghz, 2gigs ram support a 64 bit win 7? if not do you have a quick link to a suggested win7 32?
if not i think im going to re install a win xp just to give them a fresh start.

A better idea to to allocate sufficient space for the os and then create a second storage partition to keep most of you personal files on so that if you ever wanna switch os's or reformat or w.e, you wont have to back up all your data.

I'm pretty sure that CPU is 64-bit.
EDIT: It's definitely 64-bit.

I agree, but when giving the system to someone else, they're probably going to save stuff to the first partition anyway, and one day you'll find that you've just erased all the man's critical data because both of you thought he was using the second, data partition. Which then turns out he wasn't, but wasn't aware of it.
Of course, you can have the Documents folder point to a folder on the second partition, but as soon as he installs e.g. Outlook, that will start saving its .pst file on the first part anyway.
@Dunno: I have no experience torrenting Windows, sorry.
But if you actually know what you're doing and it's your own system, then I certainly agree. I use three partitions on my laptop harddrive: one for Win7, one for Xubuntu, and one for my data.
