Maitreya
    #14058616 - 03/03/11 07:16 AM (13 years, 2 days ago)

Maitreya is the prophecied next Buddha that will reincarnate on the earth whenever, and wherever the Original Buddha's teachings are no longer understood, or even non existent...Which sounds about like our modern western world...

Now I find the Buddha quite interesting...In my mind the second Buddha is no different than the Second Messiah...In fact I believe it is one in the same person...

But what I also find interesting is that there is so much "Anti-Christ" propaganda in the minds of men...Even though its completely a hollywood/pop culture creation, the word "Antichrist"
is not even in the book of revelation, Indeed the only anti Christs are the confused Babylon Christians that claim to be the disciples of the Messiah yet do not understand

There is no singular anti christ figure...Only a singular Bodhisattva...The awakened one that awakens others...Even though awakening is not restricted in this fashion...The world must have a light to guide it...

So what happens when He returns to the world...He is rejected like he was 2000 (2500) years ago? The world always changes forever in his impact...But not always for the good...("Do not think that I  will bring peace, but a sword.")

Any thoughts?

maitreya is not expected until the very distant future according to buddhist texts - also, according to these, it's said he'll travel the whole world, be very well received, and lead to the enlightenment of many many people

i dont think maitreya has anything to do with christ though, though there's a trend to try and group different traditions and teachings together

maitreya is currently residing in tushita heaven, where he can apparently be reached through meditation. the indian master asanga travelled to tushita to receive teachings directly from maitreya, which he translated and brought back to earth ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asanga#Meditation_and_teachings )

this guy talks about the coming of maitreya in 2012 and equates it with Christ, but he's not talking about an incarnated being just yet, more like spiritual love that helps us to evolve.  I agree with what deff said as to the actual incarnated Buddha.  Remember, many of us know the Buddha's teachings and keep them close to our heart, they are very much alive.

The second coming is the whole planet waking up, not one person... this is what this is all about!

EVERYTHING as ONE

not buddha, christ & couple others as one... all as one

Credulous at best on your desire to believe in
Angels in the hearts of Man
Pull your head on out your hippie haze and give a listen,
Shouldn't have to say it all again

The universe is hostile,
So impersonal
Devour to survive, so it is
So it's always been

Do you believe such a being is alive currently?  What is the purpose/function of Maitreya IYO?

he resides in tushita heaven currently, and will descend/incarnate into the human realm in the future

his purpose is solely to benefit sentient beings. according to the texts, he is currently teaching gods in the tushita heaven, though he can also be reached through meditation by advanced human meditators. there's five texts attributed to maitreya which asanga transcribed during his visits to tushita

also - maitreya's blessings can be had through doing certain practices related to him, such as yoga tantra where on manifests themselves as maitreya (after receiving empowerment from a guru)

his mantra is OM MOHI MOHI MAHAMOHI SOHA

What was the purpose of the last Buddha?

He was living among all kinds of spiritual practices including all kinds of yoga and meditation, yet even through that he still seeks more...

Compare that to the modern day...Imagine how many minds are in need of a (the) Buddha...This is a world full of pleasure but not true peace, not true wisdom...You see sometimes humanity needs a kick..Imagine it as natural selection, or adaptation for the ultimate evolution of humanities conscious/subconscious....The Buddha is the pure incarnation of the will to awaken humanity, not much different than the "Christ" This may not incarnate in just a single being though...

Compare stories...The Buddha is tempted by Mara the Lord of pleasure of this realm while hes is meditating in the Wilderness beneath the Bohdi tree...I mean the story line of Jesus is a bit more dramatic but while watching the Life of Buddha I couldn't help but notice the strange similarities...

Watch this movie from PBS...you may have already seen it..

"The world is full of pain and sorrow....But I have found serenity (The kingdom?)and I will teach you to find it too..."

Teaches the Buddha...

Why would the awakened one incarnate 80,000 years in the future? Humanity and the earth won't last that long on it's current course...

The Buddha doesn't just incarnate to save humans, he is the will of the earth itself...

i don't take anything like that literally. what the buddhists are getting at imo is the next step in human spiritual evolution, which imo is going to require a few centuries of people dying before that is even a possibility. it's a rough prediction of where they think things are headed in mythological terms.

He's not "the awakened one", he's just an awakened one. What makes a buddha significant is that they "awaken" on their own without following anyone elses path.

Not that I take any of it too seriously. The last buddha also said that the dharma would only last 500 - 1000 years...that was 2500 years ago.

The dharma is like the flow of teachings a i understand it.  There is a buddhist dharma of his teachings, a stream you can enter.  Obviously some buddhist dharmas exist, but maybe the original one is gone.  And then there's the one big dharma, the universe, but that's obviously not what he was talking about.

I take anything Buddhists say as seriously as anything else, it's very wise.  Especially the stuff i've read in the Dhammapada.  That book is tough on the ol ego.
