Question about pinning
    #14075925 - 03/06/11 02:41 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

i birthed a 1/2 pint BRF cake, then dunked and rolled it about a week ago and it hasnt started to pin yet. just wondering what the issue might be. there has been a small amount of mycelial growth near the  bottom of the cake but there are no signs of primordia.

this is to early to worry, provided your fruiting conditions are good
my current cakes are at 2 weeks and are just beginning to show signs of life
also your temp will play a big part in fruiting times

78 degrees 95 % humidity, I've been misting and fanning. I'm using a 60 gallon aquarium with an insulated and vented top I've also been using a small rubbermaid with a fish tank heater to regulate temperature and a tank bubbler for humidity.

Not a big fan of sealed up tanks as fruiting chambers myself. Nothing beats a shotgun FC. It's a cheap investment that is proven to work. The only drawback is that if it's used in a very dry environment (high altitude, desert, winter time) the perlite can get bone dry pretty quickly.

What kind of hygrometer do you have? Analog or digital?
