2 polypores and a crust from from Mexico+ other pics!
    #14072956 - 03/05/11 09:22 PM (12 years, 11 months ago)

Well i got home last night from an amazing stay in Playa del Carmen! The Yucatan is all its cracked up to be and the Caribean is unbeleivable!Unfortunatly I did not see very much fungi at all as it was already pretty damb hot and July is suppose to be the time to go for mushrooms. but this was really our first family vacation so any fungi would just be a bonus. I did manage to find 2 polypores .One was in a park called Xcaret and the other ones were from the ancient city of Tulum. I really have hundreds of pics but of course i can only show a few . I hope you enjoy them.

i know yall like your orchids, there was this giaant orchid farm at Xcaret.i have tons more pics but heres a few beauties.

sweet oyster farm at Xcaret.:smile:Ilike how they are promoting mushroom growing in the region and i wish there was actually someone to talk too.if i was by myself i would have went all the way back to the entrance and inquire about where to meet the grower.but there was tons of stuff to do and we carried on.

an old polypore! i was pretty stoked to find something!i am not sure what it is or if its the same species as the other one i found in Tulum.

a crust fungus.

there was a couple cool mayan structures here at Xcaret.

the mayans carved this cave and connected it to the underground river! we got got to snorkel underground in this cenote for like an hour! it was so refreshing after walking around the park for hours. there is all these small skylights letting in natural light.when the salt water mixxed,it as full of tropical fish and was probably the reason they carved the cave, to trap fish as the tide went out.:thumbup:so awesome!!!

Tulum was wicked!!!its the only major mayan city located right on the coast. the top structures were used as a light house as they has carved a channel through the coral, and the boats would come in this way.i just loved it ,we walked around as a family for an hour ,then there is this great beach with the finest sand ever and they played down there while i kept exploring and taking pics on my own. what an experience!

This is the polypore from Tulum . Closest thing ive found in my book was Phellinus rimosus but i know nothing of Mexican fungi.maybe Cactu knows.
there was alot of beach time too. my son and i were the attraction on the beach this day!! i was going to start charging 10 pesos for every picture takem!

heres a fairly unknown complex i just in the bushes a 5 minute walk from my hotel. i got coffee and went and chilled in this complex as the sun rose with nothing but crazy birds jumping around in the trees. i had it all to myself , it was quite a treat. :smile:this was a small village used a a stop over before people ferried across to cozumel where they were there to worship the goddess Ixchel.

well who is this senorita on TV? i am pretty sure it was known other than our favorite Gaston Guzmans daughter on this comercial for a mushroom health product! i am not lfuent in spanish so i couldnt tell exactly what was being said, but his name did come up and here last name was Guzman as well.
a pretty flower from my resort.
one from Tulum.

enjoy, thanks for looking.

I have no input on the old polypores, but I enjoy the pictures.  Thanks for uploading 'em!  :sun:

Ok see you there in July.

Also there is a particularly awesome fungus fair in the middle of August in Michoacan.

The fungus fair is always completely awesome in every way imaginable (yes, really every way. There will be a metric shit-ton of rare and interesting mushrooms) however I have reason to believe that this years fair will be quite a bit better than in the past.  You can fly into Mexico City.

I find wild orchids all the time in Mexico.  We often rescue the ones that fall off the trees by putting them back up in other trees.

I think your crust might be a slime mold similar to Fuligo septica.

hey your welcome Tim!  it was all so much to take in, if your like me and you love ancient history, than ya you could easily spend an entire day exploring and taking pics! we missed out on the big sites like chitzen itza because our litle guy would not enjoy 5-6 hours of bus ride just to see a site. and my girl is pregnant so we couldnt do coba which would have been sweet, its the last mexican pyramid you can climb.

ah buddy, i recommend biiig time!! i cant find a single negative thing i could say. and the senoritas on the beach were off the hook :thumbup:

the structures were said to be about 2000 years old give or take.
i guarantee every mayan site is older than modern archeology claims. although things are getting better and the maya are getting more credit now with the whole 2012 thing. from this hotel spot there is almost too many sites around to see!! i really wish i went to Coba as its the last big one you can climb. and its actually a different style of pyramid, very tall and steep like Tikal in Guatamala. Next time i go back i will be able to hit all different sites, i cant wait already!!
