I quit a while back when Vanguard went free-to-play.. but I quit Vanguard because it was distracting me from more important endeavors.

I have been craving a MMO and may re-install Everquest.  How's the population looking these days?  It was extremely dead last time I signed in.

this isn't on the SOE servers. it's an emulated everquest server, strictly classic EQ. right now it's showing 592 people online.

Aye.

So that means it's essentially dead.  I remember being there last year with a day time population of ~700; it seemed as if most of them were AFK players.

Possibly. Though I currently know two friends who are playing on p99 and it seems they're having fun with it. According to the EQEmu server list Project1999 has by far the most users online. Either way, I still need to hold my ground and wait before I will allow myself to give it a go. If anyone currently plays or plans on playing on this server, we could try getting some kind of group together.

Sorry to mess around with necromancy, but p99 is not dead :P I play every now and again, it reaches about 1100 people at peak hours, which may not seem like a lot.. but it is clasic EQ, considerably smaller compared to Luclin, POK etc.. Its still quite active with a very good player base!

I play a DE SK named Xyzeq, if anyone else plays, hit me up!

Thought I would update this. P99 is not dead and they released the Velious expansion a few months back.  If you are looking for a classic EQ experience to relive the old days it is well worth the relatively simple install, just follow the instructions on project1999.com.  population is routinely over 1000 active players and with no boxing rule this really means around 1000 people playing.  Check it for some good cheap fun.

edit: i put in wrong url

Bump. So I just found out about this.

They just put out a new server like 6 months ago, so you can start up pretty near to the beginning of the game. They are releasing updates and patches in the same order and time frame of the original time line.

Woah nice. Wish though I had found out about this in the spring before knowing I'd have months of lockdown ahead of me.
