first time growing

hey all,
so its my first time growing using the PF Tek method. i have six cakes sitting in my fruiting chamber with about 3" of perlite. temperature is around 20C and relative humidity is approximately 90%. i birthed the cakes about two weeks ago and dunked them for 24 hours (did not roll).
right now only one cake has any activity: one mature mushroom, one pinner and another pinner that hasnt grown at all so i think it may be an abort. all other 5 cakes seem dormant. is this normal?
oh, i forgot to mention that these are the Golden Mammoth strain. im guessing that was my mistake?
i did order more spores yesterday (golden teacher, koh samui, mazatapec) so im hoping i have better luck with these.
also, what are your opinions on breaking up cakes to be used with casing? how effective is it? i am planning on doing this with the 60/40 vermiculite and coco coir casing tek. i know its better if i inoculate in to grain but i really dont want to spend $300 on a pressure cooker.
thank you

more perlite.
make your fruiting chamber correctly.
no where on this website does it say 3" of perlite is sufficient for a properly built SGFC

i will be adding a tropic aire humidifier to it so do i really need to add more perlite?
i only misted the cakes for the first two days (i thought i was only supposed to do it for the first couple days for some reason) and im reading that i am supposed to continue misting. is it okay for growing mushrooms to get wet? or do i need to avoid them while misting?

3" is a bit light on the perlite, i would add at least another inch or two, should have no problem hitting high 90%s.also, rolling is very important, if not rolling sitting the cakes on a pile of moist verm and putting a little verm crown on top. the cakes need water.
hows the coloring? notice any blueing? also are you remembering to fan a couple times a day? when doing the PF tek the perlite and fanning are THE best methods of maintaining humidity and FAE, thats why theyre in the tek to begin with..
its also possible you birthed too soon, did you wait several days after full colonization before birthing? i usually watch closely before theyre 100%, when i see 100% count 4-5 days (depending on what ive got moving in the box) and then dunk the 24 hours and roll.
keep your cakes moist (not wet), pearly white and able to breathe...growth can happen really quickly, over a couple days even.
aborts are blackish blue btw, if theyre not blackish, leave them alone, have patience, good luck

if i am adding a humidifier to my fruiting chamber do i still need to add more perlite? also, i am thinking i will switch to hydroton because its less messy to work with (i have enough laying around from hydroponics). i fan the chamber three times a day.
the colouring is white with some fuzzy white patches. i notice a tiny bit of blue but it doesnt look like mold.
i also started misting again today because i read that blueing is a sign of lack of moisture. maybe i should dunk these cakes again and give them a roll or is it too late for me to do that?
also, would it be harmful to get mist on the existing mushrooms?

be patient man, dont mist the cakes directly, thats what the verm is for (the rolling part). blue could be bruising (touching the cakes hard, handling them too much), that is okay, after colonization your cakes are fairly strong. or it could be lack of moisture. sit the cakes on a pile of moist (MOIST! not soaking) verm and put a little on top too, mist the verm, not the cakes. theyll soak it up when they need it.
if youre using perlite, do NOT add anything else. its overkill on your wallet and brain. 90ish should be fine for now, just remember for next flush, add 1 inch more. its best to disturb your cakes as little as possible, dont want to overwork them.
fuzzy white patches are good. those are future pins!
directly misting the caps can lead to aborts.
be patient buddy, hopefully youll be delightfully surprised when they take off. they grow like weeds under the proper conditions...which if youre following the PF tek are very easy to accomplish.
cheers.

SGFC does no;t need a humidifier, 4-5 inches of moist perlite and you'll be golden..
