Just a thought. . .

In no way am I a supporter of Nazi beliefs, nor would I wish what happened to the many people who lost their lives upon them or anyone. But I digress. . .
Perhaps it is fair to consider that World War II, mainly the Holocaust (*thunder strikes*), was a blessing in disguise.
Consider how over-populated our world is now. Could you imagine if those millions had lived and reproduced?
During that time, there was a group of Jews that hid out in a forested area. There were about 20 of them at the time, ducking out from murder from said extremists. Currently, from these few survivors, there are roughly 2,000+ descendants. Originally, there were only 20! Imagine there were 4 million survivors. . .
A forest fire will destroy an enormous amount of trees and vegetation; only to bring about new life, diversity, and creation to ecosystems throughout the world.
Discuss, if you will. . .

Since humanity does not have the emotional maturity to understand over population and scarcity of resources I'm going to agree with you.
Humanity needs war to control population growth.

By the way, if the numbers were to remain constant; that would be [roughly] 400 million more people inhabiting Earth--for those who didn't do the math.

The same can be said for any epidemic or war. I'm not sure if I'd call the holocaust a blessing in disguise...there are much smoother ways of killing off large groups of humans...but for all we know, if the holocaust didn't happen, humanity would be at constant war for natural resources and water.
It was certainly a fucked up method of population control. It'd be lovely if some aliens would come down and just vaporize a couple major cities or something.

But is there a more efficient way than attempted genocide? When it comes to 'smoothness', I would think taking out that many people in such a short period of time is a hell of a lot smoother than suffering through the plague for decades.

Here's a thought, on most world population growth graphs, WWII deaths don't even show up as a blip.

How would 400 million+ new people in 70 years show on that chart? It's not the loss that inspired this thought, but the gain in human lives.

for a lot of reasons this would not equal 400 million+ new people. off the top of my head the first two, that the 20 were not the only people who are ancestors of the 2000. the second being these were very hardy people who survived under extreme conditions. And do you have a source for these numbers? Were they all Male? As presented in your original post it's sensational and doesn't even begin to put how this happened in perspective.

But look at all the wars and murders through history and prehistory and remember these dead people can all have several children who then have several children.

Population growth is a result of available resources. Had they survived they would have used resources that those that did, could not.

Were all those killed in all wars still alive today, and their offspring we would most likely be out of available resources. That would be the issue under discussion imo. War as taken a lot of people out of the equation.

An alien virus would be great. Something that makes your head explode but gives you a great psychedelic high first.

Unfortunately the only people to survive another plague are the super rich assholes who make this world such a shitty place. Humans are supposed to be humans... animals... not this go to work, spend money, go to sleep, go to work, spend money stupid fucking cycle.

Yeah man, it's impossible to really get back to that now IMO partly just because of the way we are cultured.
Did you watch any of the human planet series on bbc iplayer? Made me think about how exhilarating it would be to hunt and live by death & life all the time out in the wilds.

That is pretty cool, no i haven't seen that series. It's just sad that humans are being domesticated on technology to the point that if anything were to happen to our technology (just a matter of time before it does) we wouldn't even be able to survive in the simplest of circumstances where our non-western ancestors would have thrived.
