Before buying a new GPU you should really check out this webpage
http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu_value.html
It's passmark's website that gives you GPU rating statistics based on thousands of samples, and that specific page tells you the best video cards for the money. It changes about every week though.

I was planning on getting an HD6850 next week because it comes with a free copy of the new Deus Ex. The one I was planning on getting was only $130 which would make it a slightly better deal than the GTX465 plus the free game.

My GTS250 can play BC2 on all high settings, so with the HD6850 I should be able to run BF3 on high settings with no problems.

Email sent and a call will be made daily. Heres what I said:

To whom this may concern,

As a long term gamer who buys his software, I am outraged that you would go to such great lengths with your DRM.  It is one thing to want to protect your intellectual property, it is entirely another to say fuck the legitimate buyers privacy. My concerns regarding battlefield 3 is that EA origin account will be necessary to play and that you(EA) will be collecting data on individual users such as: making a unique profile of the user, monitoring what programs a user has, monitoring what websites a user visits and that you will be willing to sell my private information to third parties.  Until this is fixed, I will not purchase any EA software and encourage friends and family to do the same and I will spread far and wide the fact that EA does not care about the individuals privacy. You ought to be ashamed of yourselves, I thought Battlefield 3 was supposed to be a gift back to the pc gamers who helped make you successful?

They fixed it! Talk about back peddaling. New collection EULA:

2. Consent to Collection and Use of Data.

EA knows that you care how information about you is collected, used and
shared, and we appreciate your trust that we will do so carefully and sensibly.
Information about our customers is an important part of our business, and EA
would never sell your personally identifiable information to anyone, nor would it
ever use spyware or install spyware on users’ machines. We and agents acting on our behalf do not share information that personally identifies you without your
consent, except in rare instances where disclosure is required by law or to
enforce EA’s legal rights.

In addition to information that you give EA directly, EA collects nonpersonally
identifiable (or anonymous) information for purposes of improving our
products and services, providing services to you, facilitating the provision of
software updates, dynamically served content and product support as well as
communicating with you. The non-personally identifiable information that EA
collects includes technical and related information that identifies your computer
(including the Internet Protocol Address) and operating system, as well as
information about your Application usage (including but not limited to successful
installation and/or removal), software, software usage and peripheral hardware.
As noted above, this information is gathered periodically for purposes such as
improving our products and services, troubleshooting bugs, and otherwise
enhancing your user experience.

This and all other data provided to EA and/or collected by EA in
connection with your installation and use of this Application is collected, used,
stored and transmitted in accordance with EA’s Privacy Policy located at
http://www.ea.com. To the extent that anything in this section conflicts or is
inconsistent with the terms of EA’s Privacy Policy, the terms of the Privacy Policy shall control

I wasnt aware of this, and honestly am not surprised. It reminds me of their Kinect policy, that records/samples random background noise/video from the kinect so long as it is on and connected online, and sells said information. Creepy, if I had a kinect I would never let it sit plugged in.

i don't get it a new eula? what exactly did they change?  they still talk about monitoring your applications, and will report it as required by law, which means if they find anything questionable they will have to report it.

that being said ive seen alot of eula's that talked about monitoring your apps

something like that could change on a daily basis and the situations when it happens isn't in the eula.  I doubt there even allowed to say, but my guess is all the information that gets collected ends up in a google server like database.  Its the kind of shit that gets those criminal justice graduates hard in the pants, all these companys creating all these databases full of information to track people and build profiles.  There powers grow strong, the question on everyones mind, when do they throw the switch, when does this system finally "go online" and do what they built it for.

Origin is just a wannabe new Steam, and what's worse, their catalog is only EA games? wtf, chuck? At least Steam and sites like Direct Download have multiple game company's to offer.

If this 'monitoring' goes beyond simple rig specs and map choice to actually tracking sites and looking at private general uses, they will feel a massive backlash from their player base. and while I don't see an emu server for this in the future, I can almost guarantee a LAN crack will come out, and most likely the server.cfg files will either be leaked or straight up released for private hosting in the future, when it becomes MW2/BCBF2..lol.

Just like any attempt to regulate or promote a doctrine based on the exploitation of privacy and anonymity of the end user, which they so deservedly must have option to, inevitably creates the antithesis.

yar for ya booty!

Yeah whos to say it couldnt change the week after you agree to it. It is so loosely worded that is sketchy, could be interpreted in a number of different ways. What is this for exactly? BF3 on PC? Battlelog? I dont get it, what app is it monitoring? Does it upload some sort of spyware on your computer that monitors things in the background?

It's Electronic Arts new digital download service called Origin. Apparently its the login you need to play BF3 with (I know, I had to use it for the beta). And while this initial EULA sounds dark and menacing (cue the Darth Vader theme), methinks they will come to their senses now that this info has come to light and get a clue what to NOT ask of their paid participants.

Im curious as to the details, has any lawyer had the chance to pour over the contract? To what extent can they monitor, what are they monitoring, etc...

thought id break this down on how i see there double talk.

1.  They say they don't collect any information that can identify you....ding ding they collect your IP addy derp

2.they say they can monitor your application usage, software, software usage, which includes installation and removal...aka every single app on your computer.  So obviously that is overstepping there bounds as a GAME PROVIDER, however what needs to be looked at further is wether or not any file on your computer could be considered "software".

3. The next question is are they going to the law, or is the law going to them.  However this is a pretty pointless question because all you have to ask yourself is who has your information, lots of people, now how does lots of people looking at all these things on your computer make u feel about your privacy, the answer should be bad, because you don't have any.  You essentially gave up all your privacy rights, just to play a game.

There's still obviously the question of how "active" they will be with all this information, but the way the war on the internet has been going people should really be starting to fight this crap asap before its to late.  At the very least there are databases being built from all this, maybe its only for catching hackers, maybe its just for advertizements and for finding out how to make there next game better, but really how much longer do you think its going to be just about that.  Now put yourself in the shoes of someone working in the criminal justice field...wouldn't you already be tapping into all this information, i sure would.  there already doing it with facebook and all that other crap, im sure there already doing it with games.  I mean how cool would it be to just sit there and shift through all the files on peoples computers without them ever knowing and without a warrent.

Steam does the exact same thing. If you have Steam, click on the Help menu then on System Information as well as Privacy Policy. Steam collects a huge list of all the software installed on the host computer along with a list of the updates you have applied for Windows etc.

Over the past week, there has been a huge backslash towards EA and their Origin End User Licensee Agreement, which gave EA the right to snoop your computer for all kinds of information and sell it to third parties. The news quickly spread across many gaming sites, including BF3blog.
Apparently, EA has listened to the complaints and has updated their EULA for Origin. It now includes the following addition:
“EA would never sell your personally identifiable information to anyone, nor would it ever use spyware or install spyware on users’ machines. We and agents acting on our behalf do not share information that personally identifies you without your consent, except in rare instances where disclosure is required by law or to enforce EA’s legal rights.”
In addition to that, while EA will still collect data about your PC system, they removed the clause that gave them the right to use the data for marketing purposes.
The new Origin EULA went into effect last Wednesday, and is the result of an outcry from gamers and the gaming community, including us here at BF3blog, EA’s forums, and a group on Reddit. While the EULA still gives EA the right to collect vast amounts of data from you, they won’t sell it to third parties. At least, that’s what they say.
Origin is a big part of Battlefield 3, as it will be required to play the game regardless of where it’s purchased.
Thanks to everyone who sent this in!
