After introducing bills to outlaw hallucinogenic salvia and ‘synthetic marijuana’ sold as incense, Texas legislators are turning their attention to other synthetic drugs sometimes sold as bath salts, plant food or other household substances.
This week, three state lawmakers filed legislation to outlaw methylone, mephedrone, MDVP and other chemical compounds used as designer drugs, the effects of which are variously compared to cocaine, ecstasy and other controlled substances. Plus, an earlier bill by state Rep. Kenneth Sheets (R-Dallas) was referred to the House Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence Wednesday.
Many of the substances lawmakers seek to ban are labeled and sold as products not for human consumption, avoiding food and drug laws. The proposed legislation would classify those compounds as controlled substances in Penalty Group 2, along with amphetamines, ecstasy and mescaline. (Possession of less than one gram of a Group 2 drug carries a penalty of six months-two years in state jail plus a maximum $10,000 fine.)
Sheets’ House Bill 1548 has 10 co-authors, all Republicans, including two Criminal Jurisprudence committee members, state Reps. Jose Aliseda (R-Beeville) and Bill Zedler (R-Arlington). The bill addresses only mephedrone and MDPV, sold as bath salts or plant food.
Meanwhile, HB 297 by state Rep. Helen Giddings (D-Dallas) specifies only MDPV.
State Sen. Craig Estes (R-Wichita Falls) filed Senate Bill 1066, which also includes methylone — sometimes sold as room odorizer, and fluoromethcathinone — sometimes sold as plant food.
HB 2118 by state Rep. Garnet Coleman (D-Houston) includes all the above substances, plus additional ones that are even more rare.

I wonder how many people took mephedrone baths and killed houseplants already? Anyone saw a good link on that?
-------------------- In ancient times, when demons roamed with man, They hunted, loved and lost, hand in hand, As time went on, the difference between them faded. You couldn't tell anymore, demons and man were related, and some would say the same, but who would like to claim? In time, Gods had even forgot, Demons, too, once love had sought. In times recent I remember, Once I was a man, In my heart I had an ember, I'll relate the best I can but it was snuffed, one distant December. And yet here I stand, no flesh, no bones, no seed or semen, All that's left is this Demon.

I agree completely. If marijuana was legal, kids wouldn't be going around smoking/snorting random chemicals. It's not hard to guess which is worse for a person's health as well.

here's how I see it:
-ecstacy emerges; -ecstacy banned "for health reasons/no health benefits noted/no medical value", made illegal, criminal consequences threatened -people try and find a new way of emulating effects, new ways are a lot worse for you than original ecstacy. (people just wanna get high) -new crowd comes along, only knows of 'new highs', IE- meow, MDPV etc, knows little about good clean ecstacy/mdma, chase ways to get people off in whatever way they can with dodging the law. new, harmful chemicals are produced -new highs made illegal, new crowd moves on, new people find new, more toxic ways to get high.
and so it continues...

Look up "bath salts drugs" on a search engine. Or just read the article =P It talks about it.
