Lack of Vermiculite Has Led Me to This Plan

How's it going fellow shroomerites? Well stopped by a local garden store to pick up some verm for my next grow since I just received some Golden Teacher and Burmese Yangoon syringes. However, they said they were out and might not be getting anymore due to it causing health problems. So I went to Home Depot and the same thing happened. Now I have a new plan, which I hope will work without vermiculite.
I plan on making LC using this tek http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php?Number=5238137&page=0
Seems easy enough for someone like me to accomplish. Then I will put about a 3 inch layer of this: http://www.ralphstersspores.com/USA/product_info.php?cPath=8&products_id=201 in a container like this: http://www.sterilite.com/SelectProduct.html?id=443&view=0&picture=1&tab=Specifications&ProductCategory=179§ion=1
Once the LC is done, I plan on adding the LC straight to the first layer of horse/straw mix, then maybe adding another layer of horse/straw mix. I might have a couple crumbled BRF jars added in between though.
Any of that even sound close to possible? What exactly would need to be done to the bulk substrate to make it work? Any input would be greatly appreciated since I am eager to get started on my second grow.

Apparently there is a big asbestos scare involving some verm in Minnesota.
They better keep that shit away from the east coast.... I'll fucking kill people if they stop sending verm my way

Touche...
and @ProfessorPinhead I hear that. But the guy I talked to had said it was due to problems in Canada. Who knows. Either way, verm seems to be a pretty important part of a few different teks and doesn't seem to have any substitutes so I hope it's here to stay.
However, I have finally found a store with verm. I'm still curious as to if the idea would work though if anyone wanted to throw in their two cents.
