My Signature...

Some have inquired about my signature. The lyrics are from a song by Tom Waits called, "Mr. Siegal," from his album, "Heart Attack and Vine." The lyrics to this entire song should be posted in my signature, but well, there are limits...
Let?s just say that Mr. Wait?s lyrics, especially from this song, strike a chord deep within me -- myself, possessing the soul of a fellow drunk and reprobate, who is has always been more at home with junkies, and prostitutes with broken shoes, then so many vacuous "power players" of the tertiary economy -- I even think that Mr. Charles Bukoswki, himself, Rest in Peace, would have dug these lyrics!
Mr. Siegal Tom Waits
I spent all my money in a mexican whorehouse, across the street from a catholic church, and then i wiped off my revolver, and i buttoned up my burgundy shirt, i shot the morning in the back, with my red wings on, i told the sun he'd better go back down, and if i can find a book of matches, i'm goin' to burn this hotel down.
you got to tell me brave captain, why are the wicked so strong, how do the angels get to sleep, when the devil leaves the porchlight on.
well i dropped thirty grand on the nugget slots, i had to sell my ass on fremont street, and the drummer said there's sanctuary, over at the bagdad room, and now it's one for the money, two for the show, three to get ready, and go man go, i said tell me mr. siegel, how do i get out of here.
well willard's knocked out on a bottle of heat, drivin' dangerous curves across the dirty sheets, he said man you ought to see her, when her parents are gone, man you ought to hear her when the siren's on. you got to tell me brave captain, why are the wicked so strong, how do the angels get to sleep, when the devil leaves the porchlight on.
don't you know that ain't no broken bottle, that i picked up in my headlights, on the other side of the nevada line, where they live hard die young, nd have a good lookin' corpse every time, well the pit-boss said i should keep movin', this is where you go when you die, and so i shot a black beauty, and i kissed her right between the eyes.
well willard's knocked out on a bottle of heat, drivin' dangerous curves across the dirty sheets, he said man you ought to see her, when her parents are gone, man you ought to hear her when the siren's on.
you got to tell me brave captain, why are the wicked so strong, how do the angels get to sleep, when the devil leaves the porchlight on.

The Ocean Doesn't Want Me
The ocean doesn't want me today But I'll be back tomorrow to play And the strangles will take me Down deep in their brine The mischievous braingels Down into the endless blue wine I'll open my head and let out All of the time. I'd love to go drowning And to stay and to stay But the ocean doesn't want me today I'll go in up to here It can't possibly hurt All they will find is my beer And my shirt A rip tide is raging And the life guard is away But the ocean doesn't want me today The ocean doesn't want me today.

I always loved those words Pap,
right back at you:
The Race Is On
I feel tears welling up from down deep inside, Like my heart's got a big break And a stab of loneliness sharp and painful that I may never shake.
You might think that I'm taking it hard since you broke me off with a call, You might wager that I'll hide in sorrow and I might lay right down and bawl.
Now the race is on and here comes pride up the back stretch, Heartaches a goin' to the inside, my tears are holding back, tryin' not to fall.
My heart's our of the running, true love scratched for another's sake, The race is on and it looks like heartaches, and the winner loses all.
One day I ventured in love never once suspecting What the final result would be. Now I live in fear of waking up each morning, And finding that you're gone from me.
There's an aching pain in my heart for the name of the one that I hated to face, Someone else came out to win her, and I came out in second place.
-------------------- The bus came by and I got on that's when it all began!

Wow! Papaver, you're the only other person I 've found that remembers the great Charles Bukowski. Loved his book "The Days Run Away Like Wild Horses Over the Hills", as well as the works R. Crumb illustrated in Arcade comics. Damn, now I'm going to have to dig into my bookshelf and read him again...thanks for the memories...

Gotta love Bukowski... I posted a poem of his a few days back somewhere below here... Or maybe it was in the Off topic dealy... Tom Waits is another man I respect....
I remember my father gave me Buk's "Women" after a particularly bad break up. I felt so much better afterwards. "Six inches" out of Erections, Ejaculations, Exhibitions and General Tales of Ordinary Madness is a great short story... hehe.

I like "Genius of the Crowd" by Bukowski. His poetry is more appealing to me than the prose.
