I'm back!
    #14072308 - 03/05/11 06:48 PM (13 years, 11 hours ago)

Which is probably pretty much irrelevant since my last post was two years ago and I only made a handful to begin with.
I was an avid lurker, though. It's good to be back 'eavesdropping' again.
For anyone that cares, I used to live in Thailand, then Scotland, now I'm in the U.S.
Since I'm back on my home turf and no longer in a country with a potential death penalty and distinct lack of freedom of speech, I shall be more active henceforth.
So hello, everyone. I guess this is my official "I'm new here" post since I didn't say much back when I was in 08 and 09.
I hope everyone is well.
I look forward to participating in the community.

Hi!
Thailand was my home for four years. I spent most of the time there either underwater or in a very 'altered state' from various recreational intoxicants.
I miss the ease of access to good food, amusements and ecology. I miss walking into my local bar and knowing everyone in it and feeling comfortable enough to sit down at any table, be it occupied or unoccupied. Knowing you are accepted and loved is nice, eh? I miss the monsoon season. I miss the cool season. I miss... a lot.
I do not miss the mosquitoes, traffic or crowds (Though to be perfectly honest, the bay area, Ca isn't as different as we like to tell ourselves it is!) It's nice to drive a car again instead of a motorbike. It's nice to wear perfume instead of bug repellent.
We only plan on being in America long enough for me to finish my degrees and then on to the next adventure. Maybe New Zealand.

Did you inherit a bunch of money or something? What are your degrees in? Is the "we" a friend or family? Marine Biologist?

Is it true there are "Mushroom" trails in thailand where they sell shakes and the trails have neon signs along the way? IDK? might be an urban legend.

Crap. I hope I'm replying to this right. I'm used to the Ning network type systems.

The only 'trails' I know about are made of stone, scary as hell whether you're sober or not and usually one hell of a climb.
However, once you get to the top, there is a lovely little shack with a few folks serving up shakes from a rusty blender and questionable ice!
Pure heaven!
If you can make it back down to the beach without breaking your neck, it's a nice view when the sun goes down.
This was a few years ago, though. Back when the Full Moon Parties were worth the headache. Koh Tao had a few shroom shacks out in the jungle, but you have to know a Thai person to find them. They ain't for tourists, and even the resident falangs had to have a local buddy to make introductions.
I never saw any flashing lights or neon signs, though.
Hell, if there were a couple of lit tiki torches illuminating the dangerous parts of the path, I'd consider it well maintained.

Money? What's that?
Nope nope. I survived by writing articles for dive magazines and acting as a glorified underwater tour guide.
'We' is my husband and dog.
My degrees are in hyperbaric medicine, though I'm back in the U.S and double majoring in nursing and paramedics. I already have a specialization as a commercial diver medic.
Oh. And now that I'm back on my home turf (Where they can't execute you outright for suspicion of narcotics) I'm very active in fighting for our personal rights and shattering the misconceptions about recreational drug use.
Yeah, I'm a chick. Yeah, that's my real picture taken a few months ago.
Yeah, I'm a medical professional and I love shrooms.
Yeah...that's the first time I've ever even typed that.
I'm so sick of being paranoid. I'm so sick of the stigma.
Nothing to do but what I can do. What I can do is vote, educate and spread awareness.

So that's my spill.
That's why I'm back.

Now how about you?

I'll make more now that I'm not living in a country that can legally monitor my words and use them against me in a court of law that loves to hand out the death penalty.

I was always reading a lot. I like to lurk.
But this is the first time in my life I've been brave enough to actually speak.

Feels kinda nice.

Thanks for the welcome.

Well, talking about 'less than legal activities' hasn't really been a liberty I've had until recently. As for just generally talking...yeah. I do a lot of that.
I just turned 28.
Oh look. I can just respond to you without quoting.
Huh. That's handy.

Much respect, indeed.
Great country. Great people.
The temples were built by the folks that lived there, I guess.
Cambodian, Laos, and I think parts of Burma and Malaysia used to be Siam at one point in time. Buddhist monks did some amazing work in places we couldn't get a construction crew today with modern technology.
I have a ton of pics that I'll try to get up if anyone is interested.
