Why is colonizing to manure taking so long? (pics)
    #14072167 - 03/05/11 06:18 PM (12 years, 11 months ago)

I spawned to my trays (a 1:3 ratio of WBS to horse manure) 11 days ago now, and here is how they look...still patchy. Substrate depth is nearly 6", Room temp is 72 degrees and they're covered with aluminum foil with no holes (though I suspect GE is happening through the sides of the foil)
Should I be concerned yet?

6" is too deep for tray culture.  Next time, keep it to 2" to 3" for best performance.  You're far better off with three 2" deep trays than one 6" deep tray of the same size.

It also may be too wet.  If you're going to use a thick substrate, you need to make it drier than normal, and cut it with straw or vermiculite.

I don't know how my estimates were that far off, but I just took a ruler to the pans and figured out they were all between 3 and 3.5"
For future, do you recommend 2" over this depth?
