    #14071615 - 03/05/11 04:13 PM (13 years, 2 hours ago)

--------------------------- 10 PSI.......       12 PSI ......        15 PSI
Agar...........................40 minutes......30 minutes......20 minutes
Karo LC*....................20 minutes......17 minutes......15 minutes
1/2 Pint BRF..............90 minutes......75 minutes......60 minutes
WBS Qt. Jars ...........120 minutes....105 minutes......90 minutes
Popcorn Qt. Jars .....120 minutes....105 minutes......90 minutes
<2 Qt. WBS Bags.....150 minutes....120 minutes....105 minutes
>2 Qt. WBS Bags.....180 minutes....150 minutes....120 minutes

*Exceeding these times by more than 5 - 10 minutes may ruin your L.C.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's the beginning of a PC time table. Feel free to correct my times (these are from personal experience), or to give me times for other substrates/volumes. I'll incorporate all your feedback into the table. So let me know! Thanks. :]

Edit: these are intended to be recommended MINIMUM times

Maybe you should also add a recommended maximum as well?
I would not go longer than 45min on my Malt/Dextrose LC's due to carmelization.
Just like I wouldn't go longer than 45 Minutes with my Agar...

Yeah, in the case of LC, I'll make a note right now.

Would you say the times I put up for the Karo LC are about the same as Malt/Dex? I've never used it.

I always caution on the side of error. So I cannot tell you the minimum of LME/DEX LC
I PC mine for 45 minutes. My Rye grain for 120 minutes. WBS for 120 minutes.
Agar for 45 minutes.

I do not know the minimum for them... I think PC for the minimum is bad practice. IMO

Well I guess the difficult thing is, I don't want this table to be of "What you can get away with." More like, "What ought to be fine, but you can still go over." :ooo:

I wonder if it is almost an impossible endeavor, given the wide variety of opinions on the shroomery.

I agree that the minimum is bad practice, though. I guess I should call it the minimum reasonable time.

I would say 30 minutes with a Malt based LC.
and 15 minutes with a Dextrose based LC
and 30 Minutes for a MALT/DEX  LC ...
I believe Malt tends to hang onto endospores so you want to PC for a minimum of 30...
But to be safe I would tell someone 45 Minutes.

But again I am no expert... maybe you should wait for the opinion of someone
who knows alot about LC... Not trying to throw him under the bus...
But I think Hamloaf would have a good idea about all this... dude was born from a LC...

Quarts of grain should be 90 minutes in my opinion not 60....

Now that I look at it again I think you should double check half that chart, I think that info is off....

Well like I said, that's just what worked for me. I modified the grains, is there anything else off? (I live below sea level, so I might be on the lower end of things)

I think BRF 1/2 pint jars should be at least 60 minutes at 15 psi....

I agree 60 minutes minimum for BRF Jars. I had sucess with 60 minutes when I first started.
But I also has some contamination with the 12 jars. And I have not had contamination issues
with BRF when I started PC'ing 90 minutes. I am not sure if it was my Sterile technique or
if it was my change in PC'ing times... but the contamination stopped.

Yeah I agree, I do my BRF jars for 90 minutes at 15psi when I PC them......But I prefer to use a pot of water and steam sterilize for 2 hours....
