Your words are to big for small ideas

this is a good point, these things dont need to be idolized or stated in a way that makes it seem like "smart person" talk. the concept CAN be a simple one. in essence every person is the same and has the same capabilities as the other. we all bleed the same blood shed the same tears. sorrow is sorow, happiness is happy, the feelings the same regardless of the person feeling it (and regardless of why they feel it)

The fact that I know the neutrino is the future energy source and I also have detailed plans I can see in my head of precisely how it works leads me to believe that this information is not just coming from inside my head.

Go ahead and dis. Proof will come later. The fact that you folks don't get any information is why I consider you essentially worthless. Why are you worthless, because you have no respect for those who bust their ass for this world to survive. You don't attempt to change the world to a better place, you are just leaches; too childish to take on the problems of this world.

Go watch TV, smoke a bowl, do whatever you do. You can count on those certain people insuring human survival for all of us. If it wasn't for the 10%, you wouldn't have clean water, power, food, refrigerators, cars, tools, guns, music and much more.

Think about it logically. How many people are leaders? Not that many. most are followers. Only 1 CEO at a company, only a handful of people who develop technology. Most of you should be really appreciative for what you have, but you all take it for granted.

You'd be dead today at 30 or younger if it wasn't for certain people who developed technology and dedicated their lives for civilization.

so may i ask what makes you think you are separate from the ones you are telling if this "leads me to believe that this information is not just coming from inside my head"?

Talk about missing the point...wow...but congrats for doing so eloquently (I mean this)

To put out little argument to rest :

Quote:

hat it isn't a (mentally-gifted) minority who make the innovative science & technology contributions that advance societies.

I never said it wasn't. I just said IQ tests aren't an accurate reflection of intelligence, but to be an asshole to the end you need the majority of people for such an advancement. There have been a lot of inventions that where discovered before they revolutionized society, the steam engine was around since ancient greece...they didn't have any need for it and just didn't give a fuck about it at the time...

Also what does it matter if you're black? And africa didn't enjoy the same life quality as pre-industrialized europe, nor did the indjuns.

Here is archival footage about the problems in africa

 It is kinda like that if you think about it, sure colonization fucked shit up, they gave them a system they weren't ready for and exploited them. When the west gave that up african nations couldn't maintain that, but that shit's on them...

really dude? cuz africa was doing just fine until colonization came in and fucked em over, and just like a lot of native american reservations and other countries who later regained their independence the ruling power set up systems which controlled the very essentials of life and said you have to do things this way and destroyed the old way of life which they sustained themselves by, then when they left there was just no way that would work-couldn't go back to the old ways, couldn't quite assimilate (and imo shouldn't) to the ways left to them, that's not their fault at all, that's being culturally raped and pretty much "culturally brainwashed" and left to deal with shit on your own

and ricky gervais is a douche, funny, but a douche

Consider this-if tomorrow china took over the US and forced communism on us and pushed us to assimilate to their culture would you want to gain back our sovereignty? and if we regained it wouldn't you think our system would be fucked over by years of an outside political system and culture that did not match our values and culture?

Sorry dude, I know you weren't completely saying it like I sort of seemed to imply you were, but I strongly disagree that "that shit's on them"

Well that's what I said kinda, colonization didn't fuck shit up until after they gained their independence...of course it's on them, there where a lot of countries under colonial rule and quite a bit f them are far far better off than sub-Saharan africa, not saying that the west didn't carry much of the blame, but they still play a big part in it...it's like when you're physically assaulted or forced trough some traumatic event (let's not say rape, but something along those lines), it sucks, it won't be the same after that but you can pick yourself up and try to do the best you can with a shitty situation or hit yourself repeatedly over the head with a rock... There only so much compassion you can have if you refuse aid while your people are starving...

And Ricky Gervais is awesome :crankey:, he's just funny enough to not be a douche, I just can't take him seriously so it's all good humor, but he's threading a fine line I'll give you that and he occasionally slips up...

Janamil all spoiled it for me. I used to fall for this sort of thing, but these days, I just can't take posts seriously that in flawed English point out how the whole world is retarded except OP.

Anyway, ignorance is bliss. I definitely agree  It's probably the best argument to strive for a Huxlian brave new world society. OP will fit in nicely with the other epsilon semi-morons.

well okay I see if you mean its part of africa's fault because those in power in africa are often corrupt and there's all sorts of rebel groups and shit, but even most of that is fueled by the middle east and the west

I highly recommend watching all of it, and looking into other stuff about africa and how their leaders are often bribed and pushed to corruption directly by other political leaders, foreign drug lords and other sources that will exploit them for resources and in return fund some of the most violent radical groups there, including terrorists like osama bin laden some of whom are actually funded through blood diamonds more than anything else.

still IN SPITE of all of this, they have stood up and fought for justice and done a lot to help heal their own country and major improvements have occured through their own actions. Often when we do anything it actually does very little, and nobody really wants to deal with the truly violent, horrible stuff except for very brave africans like http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/10865705/ns/world_news-africa/.

also check out some of anthony bourdain's stuff in africa, pretty good

of course one of the greatest african leaders, who lead ethiopia to be the only african country to defeat great britain and retain its sovereignty, etc

Jah Ras Tafari, Haile Selassie I, H.I.M.

the famous words (you might recognize them from the bob marley song, but it they are from a speech by Selassie I
until the philosophy which holds one race superior and another inferior is finally and permanently discredited and abandoned: That until there are no longer first-class and second class citizens of any nation; That until the color of a man's skin is of no more significance than the color of his eyes; That until the basic human rights are equally guaranteed to all without regard to race; That until that day, the dream of lasting peace and world citizenship and the rule of international morality will remain but a fleeting illusion, to be pursued but never attained; And until the ignoble and unhappy regimes that hold our brothers in Angola, in Mozambique and in South Africa in subhuman bondage have been toppled and destroyed; Until bigotry and prejudice and malicious and inhuman self-interest have been replaced by understanding and tolerance and good-will; Until all Africans stand and speak as free beings, equal in the eyes of all men, as they are in the eyes of Heaven; Until that day, the African continent will not know peace. We Africans will fight, if necessary, and we know that we shall win, as we are confident in the victory of good over evil"

My point is that all the celebrities and religious groups and shit don't really do much of anything to help out africa, they have stood up and done the most to fix things themselves. I really can't stand the attitudes in america that we need to help them like out of pity because of their inferiority, its like people try to not be racist because its taboo but when push comes to shove africa is looked down on and most people just try to ignore it or make a publicity stunt with it or use it to spread their religion, but when the bullets start flying the americans get the fuck out of there and leave it up to them, while we simultaneously inadvertently finance their militia groups. Nobody seems to know a damn thing about african history and just sort of assumes they're all living out in the bush somewhere, completely primitive or something, its bullshit.

And I'm not saying you are one of those at all, in fact I'd say most people I've met on the shroomery seem to be very understanding, but still I guess the ignorance of the west in general hits a nerve. Also I guess I'm a bit touchy because my little brothers aren't allowed to be around my dad without supervision and he manipulated the whole situation to have his fucked up asshole of a friend supervise so I forced him to let me come along so I could make sure he didn't do anything fucked up and I had to sit there while his friend called obama a house servant, almost saying nigger, talking about how its disgusting that a black man is allowed to be president, that white kids listen to black music, etc, but I couldn't do anything about it because my dad was about to call the sheriff because I had forced him to let me come and I couldn't risk pissing him (also a racist) or his racist friend off. So I guess my blood is still boiling because of that, sorry I kind of exploded on here, I guess I'm just a bit touchy about that stuff right now :bomb:

Thnx man for the documentaries, I absolutely love Bourdain, has very entertaining shows and that blood diamods one looks interesting.

Hey I'm not saying that it's because of their race that things have gotten so bad in africa...don't get me wrong. And they receive a lot of help from the UN as far as I know, not fucking Angelina Jolie or whoever the fuck hollywood celebrity is bored that week, but they don't use it to create a sustainable economy,  in most cases half gets stolen and they eat the other half instead of planting it...it has also gone so far that some of the countries rejected special genetically modified corn that was supposed to grow and thrive in the arid conditions there because they where afraid of allergies or toxic effects , so as I said, compassion and understanding only goes so far...

You were on your way home when you died.
It was a car accident. Nothing particularly remarkable, but fatal nonetheless. You left behind a wife and two children. It was a painless death. The EMTs tried their best to save you, but to no avail. Your body was so utterly shattered you were better off, trust me.
And that’s when you met me.
“What… what happened?” You asked. “Where am I?”
“You died,” I said, matter-of-factly. No point in mincing words.
“There was a… a truck and it was skidding…”
“Yup,” I said.
“I… I died?”
“Yup. But don’t feel bad about it. Everyone dies,” I said.
You looked around. There was nothingness. Just you and me. “What is this place?” You asked. “Is this the afterlife?”
“More or less,” I said.
“Are you god?” You asked.
“Yup,” I replied. “I’m God.”
“My kids… my wife,” you said.
“What about them?”
“Will they be all right?”
“That’s what I like to see,” I said. “You just died and your main concern is for your family. That’s good stuff right there.”
You looked at me with fascination. To you, I didn’t look like God. I just looked like some man. Or possibly a woman. Some vague authority figure, maybe. More of a grammar school teacher than the almighty.
“Don’t worry,” I said. “They’ll be fine. Your kids will remember you as perfect in every way. They didn’t have time to grow contempt for you. Your wife will cry on the outside, but will be secretly relieved. To be fair, your marriage was falling apart. If it’s any consolation, she’ll feel very guilty for feeling relieved.”
“Oh,” you said. “So what happens now? Do I go to heaven or hell or something?”
“Neither,” I said. “You’ll be reincarnated.”
“Ah,” you said. “So the Hindus were right,”
“All religions are right in their own way,” I said. “Walk with me.”
You followed along as we strode through the void. “Where are we going?”
“Nowhere in particular,” I said. “It’s just nice to walk while we talk.”
“So what’s the point, then?” You asked. “When I get reborn, I’ll just be a blank slate, right? A baby. So all my experiences and everything I did in this life won’t matter.”
“Not so!” I said. “You have within you all the knowledge and experiences of all your past lives. You just don’t remember them right now.”
I stopped walking and took you by the shoulders. “Your soul is more magnificent, beautiful, and gigantic than you can possibly imagine. A human mind can only contain a tiny fraction of what you are. It’s like sticking your finger in a glass of water to see if it’s hot or cold. You put a tiny part of yourself into the vessel, and when you bring it back out, you’ve gained all the experiences it had.
“You’ve been in a human for the last 48 years, so you haven’t stretched out yet and felt the rest of your immense consciousness. If we hung out here for long enough, you’d start remembering everything. But there’s no point to doing that between each life.”
“How many times have I been reincarnated, then?”
“Oh lots. Lots and lots. An in to lots of different lives.” I said. “This time around, you’ll be a Chinese peasant girl in 540 AD.”
“Wait, what?” You stammered. “You’re sending me back in time?”
“Well, I guess technically. Time, as you know it, only exists in your universe. Things are different where I come from.”
“Where you come from?” You said.
“Oh sure,” I explained “I come from somewhere. Somewhere else. And there are others like me. I know you’ll want to know what it’s like there, but honestly you wouldn’t understand.”
“Oh,” you said, a little let down. “But wait. If I get reincarnated to other places in time, I could have interacted with myself at some point.”
“Sure. Happens all the time. And with both lives only aware of their own lifespan you don’t even know it’s happening.”
“So what’s the point of it all?”
“Seriously?” I asked. “Seriously? You’re asking me for the meaning of life? Isn’t that a little stereotypical?”
“Well it’s a reasonable question,” you persisted.
I looked you in the eye. “The meaning of life, the reason I made this whole universe, is for you to mature.”
“You mean mankind? You want us to mature?”
“No, just you. I made this whole universe for you. With each new life you grow and mature and become a larger and greater intellect.”
“Just me? What about everyone else?”
“There is no one else,” I said. “In this universe, there’s just you and me.”
You stared blankly at me. “But all the people on earth…”
“All you. Different incarnations of you.”
“Wait. I’m everyone!?”
“Now you’re getting it,” I said, with a congratulatory slap on the back.
“I’m every human being who ever lived?”
“Or who will ever live, yes.”
“I’m Abraham Lincoln?”
“And you’re John Wilkes Booth, too,” I added.
“I’m Hitler?” You said, appalled.
“And you’re the millions he killed.”
“I’m Jesus?”
“And you’re everyone who followed him.”
You fell silent.
“Every time you victimized someone,” I said, “you were victimizing yourself. Every act of kindness you’ve done, you’ve done to yourself. Every happy and sad moment ever experienced by any human was, or will be, experienced by you.”
You thought for a long time.
“Why?” You asked me. “Why do all this?”
“Because someday, you will become like me. Because that’s what you are. You’re one of my kind. You’re my child.”
“Whoa,” you said, incredulous. “You mean I’m a god?”
“No. Not yet. You’re a fetus. You’re still growing. Once you’ve lived every human life throughout all time, you will have grown enough to be born.”
“So the whole universe,” you said, “it’s just…”
“An egg.” I answered. “Now it’s time for you to move on to your next life.”
And I sent you on your way.
 YOU FUCKIN NERD!!!!

I just said IQ tests aren't an accurate reflection of intelligence, but to be an asshole to the end you need the majority of people for such an advancement.

Ok, but if you are to say this, then you must offer an alternative that can be quantified, bc if it can't then it is purely subjective. For instance, you said 'common sense' was a better measure, yet didn't define this. To attempt to provide a measurable, working definition so would be nearly impossible, as almost everybody has a different definition. Some might consider whether or not one smokes to be a good definition, as smoking cigarettes is one of the worst things you can do to your body. Fox News viewers might consider Bill O-Reilly's claim that movement of ocean water requires a supernatural force acting upon it to embody common sense, etc. ad nausium.

In terms of pure & applied science that improve a society's standard of living, virtually all who advance these through the ages would fall into the ~25 who have an IQ at or above 110, & especially disproportionately the 10% or so who are at or above 120. If you took 10 people based on a measured criteria & asked them to work together do a new, worthwhile task that would improve society, giving them a reasonable budget & length of time, upon what would you select them? Examples of such tasks would include...

- figure out a way to sequence an organism's genome in an afternoon, with a recurring cost of not more than a few hundred dollars

- figure out a way to power a small neighborhood by harnessing the kinetic energy in ocean currents

- work out a way to cool an office building using a solar-powered air conditioning system, including some extent of electrical storage when incoming sunlight is not enough (maybe this one exists, but it would still be quite an task to complete)

Personally, I think it's naive to think that a group of 10 people with an average IQ (90-110) are going to do as well as a group with 120 or higher, bc the mental skill set needed to solve these complex problems would enable one to score above average on an IQ test.  Likewise, I don't think whether or not they smoke, believe in a god, etc. are good indicators of their innovative potential; I'll take IQ if I had to use one measured standard.

I'm guessing that you are wrong on Africa if you were to compare the whole continent (don't know enough about Africa's history to speak with any certainty, though), but you are certainly wrong on Native Americans. The population of the latter was around 50 million when Columbus came; I've seen similar estimates for Europe at the same time. Person for person, what the best of what the AmerIndians had would certainly rival that of what Europe had, across the board... agriculture, architecture & landscaping, ceramics & art, etc.

As a whole in a number of ways, Europe was still behind the AmerIndians & only started to improve at or after that time. For instance, European understanding of disease & sanitation, & attributing events with natural explanations to witchcraft, the Jews & other heretics, was dismal up until rapid progression starting not more than a few centuries ago. On the flip side, language was obviously better in Europe, as was military power (which the AmerIndians didn’t engage in the scale of violence that Europeans peoples did) but I think sanitation more than negates that. Regardless, if you had to be born somewhere in 1500 in either Europe or the Americas, you would definitely not automatically make the decision, but rather want plenty of background info on the specifics of each prospect.

:thumbup:totally agree dude at least with the second part. 99.9% of the time it seems like people say that shit out of complete ignorance. If you get down to it the differences between our cultures is fairly minimal, all cultures if you examine them have arts and religious beliefs and tradtions, a lot of the time pretty advanced math, politics, etc. Cahokia is one example in north america, and the general view of indians out in teepees in ignorant-around 80% literally were sedentary and lived in towns and villages, some of which were actually BIGGER than any european city from the same period. Also Africa had the kushites who actually ruled over egypt for a while, great zimbabwe, the zulu, ethiopia, etc.

I'm a student of cultural anthropology, and we learn how to dissect cultures and the misconceptions we have-basically america is extremely ethnocentric and we think that other cultures are inferior simply because they do not share our same value, but that same culture often sees us as the inferior ones because their values are differnt. Some people say oh holy shit look at that really big building! that shows we're better than everyone else, and other people say wtf? who gives a shit, you sure are impressed easily. And for that matter china kicks our ass so much of the time, but people ignore that." MERICA!MERICA! HELL YEAH! we're the oldest, we're the most advanced, we're the best!"  "...but china beat you to almost all of your major inventions, philosophies, innovations, etc and has more people and more power and in some ways is more advanced, though japan certainly is more advanced if you want to talk technology" "....uhhhhhh um MERICA! communist bastards! it doesnt count!"

not to mention that we trace our "history" back to england, france, italy/rome, greece, and mesopotamia as if somehow that was always america, its pretty much a twisted continuation of manifest destiny that cuts out a shit ton of actual history to connect lines that are there, but to much less of an extent than you'd think. Thats the real "conspiracy", although it comes about from hundreds of years of twisted teaching that traces history back through the eyes of the romans and through the eyes of the catholic church. as the irish say "those in power write the history"

I think people are just scared to admit that we aren't the absolute rulers of the world, that something could actually happen to us

oh and btw, most psychologists now agree the most successful people are those with a healthy balance of emotional IQ, logical type IQ, etc. My dad for example, is a physics professor with second masters degree in engineering and an IQ through the fuckin roof, but he's basically a psychopath void of emotions and he has been bankrupt three times, gets his water shut off, etc etc cuz you just can't sustain a good life if you always piss people off. So much of your success depends on your social skills, and if you are friends with all the right people you can end up oh idk...running for president or becoming a famous "artist". People need to have intelligence sure, but intellect alone does not run the world
