Question on Dunk and Roll! Need Help!

Im getting started to start my first grow (pf- tek). I just want to make sure that I fully understand the concept of Dunk and Roll so here it is: 1.I wait 1 week after full colonization so the mycelium can consolidate 2. I birth the cake and rinse it under tap water (so getting rid of the vermiculite layer) 3. I dunk them in water and put them to fridge for more or less 12 hours but not longer than 24 h. 4. I take them out of the water, rinse them again under tap 5. I roll them in dry vermiculite to it is fully covered with it. 6. I put my cakes in my fruiting chamber 7. I should do this after birthing and each flush So is that right guys? thanks a lot !

I don't think the fridge really makes a difference and its advised not to roll in verm after the first flush, just dunk and put back in the FC.
Also make sure to sterilize your dry verm in oven for 30 min at 350 degrees before rolling your cakes in it.

1 yes 2 yes 3 fridge is not necessary. i recommend the full 24hrs 4 yes 5 yes 6 yes. place a little extra verm on the tops after you put them in the FC 7 no. just the first

I was Told To Dunk after the first flush and every one after but only for 12 hours and then re-roll... So maybe I need some clarification on this too lol.

The fridge is, imo, more to protect against contam's as the colder temps inhibit bacterial growth than it is for "cold shocking". To each his own though!

i also do 12 hours after the first dunk while i do just under 24 on the first. Thats what I always heard is recomended but not to re-roll as it can create a good environment for contams to start because we all have some contam spores on our substrates, the mycelium is just very resistent. When you reroll you can burry some of those spores or at least thats what I've read on here about not re-rolling.

Putting the dry verm on the tops means what exactly? because it is already fully covered with dry verm. Also after the first u mean after the first flush or after birthing ?

only a little bit of verm can stick to wet cakes, so add a thicker layer to the tops

I have a pack of brand new Verm not previously opened, so is it still necessary to sterilize it ?

verm holds moisture fairly well. this will create a nice little microclimate that is beneficial to pin formation
heres a visual. my cakes always pin nice on the tops

probably not but I would anyway to be sure if it was me, since its not really a hassle and if anything went wrong (contams, ect.) then you could eliminate the dry verm as a possibility.
I'm sure theres people that don't even sterilize it and have no problems but it is recomended and I like to take all the precautions I can.
