I'm not sure if this is Chlorophyllum brunneum or a Macrolepiota sp.? Found growing under Paperbark and Eucalyptus.
Any help would make my day.

Thanks.

Look like Chlorophyllum brunneum to me - which used to be classified as Macrolepiota rhacodes I think, So its both?
If I'm misreading your question, and your just curious to be sure its not molybdites - check the bruising. The molybdites will bruise red pretty much immediately. The brunneum tends to bruise shades of orange FADING to red moments later. And/Or just check the spore print for solid confirmation (green / white )
Good find!

You and your photos LM... goodness, it's like I'm right there in the field with the mushroom! I love it!
I'd say it looks like Chlorphyllum brunneum, however it's pileus is peculiarly dark.

They do appear to be. The abruptly bulbous stem base is a good feature for IDing them.
They look like they're probably a bit past their eat by date. Still, there might be some younger ones about that are in good condition.
Happy mushrooming!

I'd call them that.
I found a patch just up the street under Eucalypts the other day but they were too far gone. They're a great edible.

Yups look just like the ones I found that Karode helped me ID. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/13721577
They were delicious with some salt, pepper and butter.

Thanks for all your awesome replies! I've never found them before so now I can go out in confidence knowing what they are.
There were heaps more around but they were beyond recognition, you know like in that state where they melt in your hand. If only I had found these bad boys a few days earlier they'd be frying in my pan.

C. brunneum grow all over the place here, but I always manage to find them a couple of days too late. They're great when fresh though

Ever since you made this post the other day I keep driving over to check on my Shaggy Parasol spot... No luck - but you got me thinking about 'em.

Either C.brunneum or C.rachodes. Personally I'd lean toward C.rachodes based on the bulb (swollen but not distinctively abrupt and flat) and the only good picture of a annulus I see is on the second to last picture which looks to me like it has two ridges, one pointed up and one down.
Either way... :nom:
