The more accurate question would be what is life, IMO..

And the correct answer is "Temporary".

If you ask me.

let's not oversimplify it now
Quote:

Stars that are greater than eight solar masses when they are born usually end their lives in a gigantic supernova, one of the brightest events in the universe. After this violent and dramatic death, they leave behind a neutron star or black hole. Smaller stars shed layers over thousands of years, ejecting planetary nebula as they run out of nuclear fuel and enter their red giant phase. The ejected nebula is an expanding shell of gas that leaves behind a burnt-out, highly compact star known as a white dwarf.

it seems that all stars undergo series of transformation on some level or another

it sucks that we understand so little about the cosmos. what sucks even more is how we think we understand so much

How sure are you of that, and based on what evidence?

I like to think you're right from ego deaths I've had, but these days I find myself questioning whether or not that's just wishful thinking.

I feel 100% sure that death is not the permanent end of all consciousness, and 80% sure that our souls go on an astral journey and reincarnate, based on spiritual texts i've read like the Tibetan Book of the Dead.  But what really confirms it for me are meditative/spiritual experiences I've had where I saw clearly that all of external reality appears within consciousness, not the other way around, and that this consciousness is what we truly are.  There is nowhere to go, and that which dies is not what you really are.

Meditate on the self/moment (they are the same), and confirm it. srsly anybody can do it.

I actually do mindfulness meditation and I can stay in the moment for a good amount of time between distractions now. I've experienced what you're talking about on several psychedelics, too.

I'm just not convinced it's based on reality. It seems like something our minds might invent from our desire to have some of the concepts that we're all emotionally familiar with, like eternity and a oneness that overrides communication. After all, death and fear of public speaking (poor communication) are our biggest fears, no?

It's as simple as knowing that it's never not going to be 'now.'  And the self and the now are synonymous concepts, when you really investigate it.

which death?

many people can be said to die years before their bodies do, and many people can be said to live on for hundreds of years after they die

THIS will lead to death. pretty horrible shit. then again if you are screaming Allah Akbar blowing yourself up and stoning your sister to death for allowing someone to rape her, then it's hard to expect people NOT to end up in this situation.

I wouldn't want to get in the middle of that.

For me, personally,

it's when my the meat that I'm made of stops sustaining/propagating and starts to decompose/be digested.

When the ion's in my calcium channels quit servicing my body and start to send off into other bits of the universe, when I eternally lose cognition, I'm dead.

I just hope I'm not one of those freaks that has lost cognition but is kept firing for the sake of aesthetics, but without medical coverage I doubt that'll be an issue.

so, the body and mind

but every single aspect of the body and mind is observed by something else, which is you obviously

you can observe your thoughts

you can observe your body and all its sensations

they are all just another aspect of your present moment experience

but who is the experiencer?

Wouldn't it be you? because if no one was around to view you the Experiencer is the only one who can experience things

yeah its you, consciousness.  But its something else than the body and mind.  We identify with the instrument and that is the primary cause of all of man's sufferings and fears.

and it's primary to the body and mind, experientially, our consciousness is prior to them and not cause by them as is normally assumed

I've posted this video before but I think it's very pertinent to this thread:

I don't understand people that say there will be nothing after you die. How can there be nothingness if you are not there to perceive it? And if you'd be there to perceive the nothingness the nothingness would no longer be nothingness but somethingness.
When you die your perception will shift. And you will enter a new existence. Because not existing is not possible.
