I REALLY doubt their gyms. I only bother with the actives though, so I have no idea what it is.

Yes, sporeprint was a rusty brown color, like cinnamon.
The caps were kinda spongy and felt like wet leather.
I am hydrating a fraction of the sporeprint now.
Well, my idea just got shot down...and good luck.

Gills seem pretty dark for Gymnopilus. I'd guess Pholiota.

Those dont look like Gyms at all.Gills are too crowded and the spore color does not look right.

i would say they are some sort of mutant large hypholoma - they are not yellow enough to be gyms in my opinion - and the spores on the caps look a little more reddish than true gym rusty orange ------------ ive got one patch of g luteus that looked KINDA like that( only ONCE ) last fall - still very different tho - notice the fresh purplish look to the spores on the caps - but also note they are VERY yellow ALL THE TIME!!! also with THICK persistantly HIGH annular zone - - - -here is one more gym luteus pic showing a giant with classic colors and stature ( cap was the size of a dinner plate ) the stem was atleast 2.5 inches in diameter - probably larger
ive seen lots of hypholoma that look like the OP's though - also pholiota sometimes look VERY close - and the scales can get washed off clean by heavy rains!!!

I would trust wisco, also did not see the white veil remnants on the cap
so with that print I guess it's Pholiota

Not trying to bust your enthusiasm OP - but here are a few more pics of mine that kinda show how true gyms should look - - - -the first is of the same spot with the wavy capped monsters - notice the BRIGHT yellowing color the three other pics show a pholiota that also almost caught me off guard - i wanted it to be a gym - but check out the pics closely - it even did have scales - but rain washed them off almost ALL the way off - - -- - - - to even the trained eye at a close glance it looks very much like a gym - but then - its a classic pholiota - i don't have pics of its spore print - but it looked just about identical to a gym print too - - - just glad i kept my collections seperate and really gave this one a second look -- - - -- would REALLY suck to get sick from some sneaky pholiota

can you outline the antibiotic portion of that agar recipe? I've got a gift from MM that I'm betting will need some cleaning.
sending mushy vibes your way with hope for this project!
