Scientists have discovered four new species of fungi in Brazilian rainforests that infect carpenter ants and take over their brains. About a week after being exposed to spores from the fungi, ants enter a zombie-like state. The fungus then grows out of the ant’s head and releases spores, but not until the ant climbs to a favorable position in the rainforest canopy so the spores have a better chance of infecting other ants.
Zombie fungi article.

Cordyceps species. Not new, and discussed dozes of times here on the Shroomery. Some cordyceps species are sought after, especially in Asia, for their supposed medicinal properties. Do a search on cordyceps militaris.

Look at some of the different ways they're walking when they're in the zombie state, they're nothing like anything the ant would normally. I remember seeings this years ago on the discovery channel on one of those 100 extreme animal countdowns haha but all I can say is I hope it isn't related to this: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/14073669

This is like the toxoplasma gondii parasite that can make mice be attracted to cats and increase their likelihood of being eaten and let the parasite continue on with their life cycle inside the cat.
