Green Perlite?

I've been doing doing the PF tek for a while now. About 16 jars every month. I have 2 terrariums, 8 cakes in each. When I finished my last flush, the new jars were fully colonized, and I didnt have enough perlite at the time to lay down again, so i just re-used the perlite that was in there. Most of the cakes just finished their first flush, and for the past few days i've noticing spots of green on the perlite, but none on the cakes yet. I'd rather not throw the cakes away, and it's only in 1 terrarium. What's the worst that could happen from continuing use those cakes?

You really should sterilize your perlite.. you dont want to risk contam!!!
when i sterilize, i use a 1:10 ratio of Sodium Hypochlorite (A.K.A. bleach) and H20 drown perlite in this mixture
then rinse with BOILING H20
good luck

I've never seen anything grow on perlite. But if I did, I've bake it at 350 for an hour.

I've had green algae growing on perlite after many uses, I did the soak in weak bleach solution and it worked wonders. It made the perlite nice and white again and the green hasn't come back yet.

Algae grows on alot of strange things especial perlight.
If you've ever grown with Hydroponics or had fishtanks you would see how crazy algae is.
Are you using powerful lighting?

Are you using tap water to spray your fruiting chamber? I suspect that it could cause the algae to grow since some municipal water contains nitrates. I guess this may be one drawback to using tap water.
