Using a green laser to kill contaminates

I was curious as to the potential for using a 100mW green laser to kill contamination in cultures. The laser I have is strong enough to pop balloons, I'm sure it would kill young fungal colonies as well. And without opening the jar to boot.

Only the cells on the surfaces that the laser can touch, not on the inside of the cake, where other microbes may reside. And that's if you hold it there long enough for it to heat up adequately.

I'm not sure about a 100mW, but I think it coudl certainly be worth a shot; once a jar's contam'd, it's already pretty well worthless in the scheme of things.
One thing to note - you might wanna try with suitably-rated rated laser safety goggles. I have no idea whether it would happen, but in my mind there's a chance of it reflecting in funny ways if shot into a curved glass jar, which could include unluckily straight back into your eye.

Oh yes, goggles are a must. It appears to work, superficially at least. On brown mold. Only contam I have right now. Wouldn't expect it to work on any green molds though, they would reflect the green wave length radiation. I'll cut the cake open in a few days to see how it was affected sub dermally
