It's from 'birthing' the jars without waiting a week after full colonization.  Why can't you post pictures?  At the top left of your browser is a link that says 'Pics'.  Click it and follow the instructions.

I think he means these mutations are in his jars and he has not birthed them yet.

They haven't been spawned yet, the jars are still colonizing. There are just these odd balls of mycelium where I inoculated them. The myc is growing up instead of into the grain in these cases.
