Where is this little guy going?(Pics)

Hello, so I have some cakes and three of them aren't pining at all, they have been in there for a week and 3 days and a cake I just put in there a few days ago pined and has two mushies that pined on the cake when it was still in the jar I left them on there while I dunked them and they are growing.
But I just had a pin pop up yesterday and its growing in a strange direction.
Also any help as too why those other cakes aren't pining would help.
I did just change my misting habits recently so maybe they will be pining soon.
Here is that weird pin.

Here are the other cakes.

I just dont know why I have so few pins it really sucks. And now the one cake I just put in there starts pining, but just one pin.

but the real answer is that you are using Course vermiculite, which is not suitable for your pf cakes. They look very dry. get a fine grade vermiculite.
notice how there is one guy growing from the bottom (prob the only suitable place on the cake that has barely enough moisture)

That one was in the jar before I dunked it, I have that pin that just poped up. None of the cakes are blue wouldn't they bruise if they were dry.
Do you think a dunk and then no vermiculite would get the job done.

if your cakes bruise blue, thats a sign of EXTREME dryness.
your RH is ~70%, but it really looks a lot less. should be 80-95%

They arent blue at all, and I had 4 Hygrometers in there that read 4 diffrent things.
That one you see is incorrect, I have one that I use that I wrapped in a wet paper towle for over a hour in only read 79 so I assumed its 79 was 100$ so i go by that one and it is at 77 which is in the 95 range.
Whatever, I guess no one can help me.

My first pin appeared on one of my cakes that I just put in their a few days ago.
While my other cakes that haven't pined at all have been in their for over a week, and I just recently stopped misting so much and started fanning more.
Im sure its my humidity any more suggestions please?
They are bright white, not dried out.

Man, I thought there were nice folks here. I guess if you dont bow down and accept everything someone says im a bad guy.
I am just stressed this is my first time I followed all instructions spent countless hours researching and all I get is that its too dry because my BROKEN hygrometer I only use for the thermometer on it is stuck on 70.
Sucks for me, I thought this place was to help the first timer out.

sometimes it just takes longer, then few times i did cakes it took 2 weeks + before i saw signs of pinning...how often are you misting and fanning? FAE and water evaporation off the substrate is the number one pinning trigger.

Ive been focused on that the past few days, I cut misting down to 3 times a day evenly spaced out. I fan 5-7 times a day and make sure all droplets are off of the cake a hour after spraying in the FC.

they dont look too wet to me in these pics, i would just stick to misting, then fanning for 30 seconds or so after each misting... I only fan when i mist, but that shouldn't cause any problems fanning few extra times a day.

I get fine verm from my garden nursery, dont think lowes sell fine grade.
a week and 3 days is not much time for pinning, depending on your strains genetics pinning could take more time. I would let it keep growing for a few more days. when spraying shotgun tubs like the one you have, I like spraying water along the walls (its messy tho) and it will keep your RH higher.
you will probably get a very small flush, then dunk and roll with fine
I use this kind f verm

I haven't looked too much into casing yet, but can I case with the bags of Rye berries after they are fully colonized. I was thinking about buying some pre sterilized ones from one of the sponsors.

I'd stick to PF tek. Technically they output more weight per substrate. Its a tried and tested method. Keep doing that until you are completely tired. Moving to different teks will just give you a huge headache.

this i disagree with, my first grow i did both, grain and pf tek, and found grains to be much easier and less hassle...its all user preferece if you feel comfortable going to grains then yes go ahead and do so...and you want to spawn your rye to either manure, or coir or straw, or a mixture of the 3 or 2 of them..etc...then you can case once fully colonized but its not needed for cubes..

its also a larger investment. I assumed the reason he wanted to buy pre-sterilized anything, would be for not having a PC and glove box + grains + equipment to prepare grains + substrate materials + Substrate pasteurizer.
it's a huge difference in my opinion

agree, it all depends on if the OP has the equiptment to start doing grains...i'd never buy a pr sterilized grain jar/bag when i can do it myself

I'm a noob as in terms of my "register" date.
But, when I used to do cakes.. I never used the lids to sit cakes on because I could be using those to colonize my jars. Make little bowls out of foil with super wet verm in bottom.. Put a little pile of verm on top of cake and get it really wet.. Ur cakes will fruit in no time!! Cheers!

Thanks I think I will make a little pile of moist verm for them to sit on, as long as it is moist and not soaking they will be fine right.
I hate how its always suggested to use verm but then some people claim verms sucks moisture out of cake.

I'm not sure about that method. It may help, but when I have puddles form on my substrates and I don't clean it up, pins will never form in that area period.

I am going to focus on misting less and fanning so I can see if I was misting too often preventing pins from forming.
I have a question though, the cake that has pins on it will it continue to flush, and if those three get big enough by sunday im gonna eat them.
I haven't eatin mushies that much and whenever I did I always ate very little. One time I ate .5 and had alot of fun. So if they are over a 1g dry Im guessing 10g wet im gonna munch on them sunday.
After I pick them and if no more pins form on the other 3 should I dunk them for 12hrs?

no you want your room to be drier. the process of evaporation will induce pins.

I guess I just need to be patient.

The fact that the small pins that were on my cake have been growing larger and larger and are on their way to mushrooms over the past few days should mean that my humidity is ok right?
I still dont have any pins but I am going to give them a 12hr dunk Tuesday if no pins form. Do you guys think that is a good idea? I am also going to get some finer verm for the cakes.
Also my temp in the chamber is from 66-68 is that too low?

If you use a humidifier instead of the perlite stuff it works much better. Just buy one from walgreens or somewhere that doesn't use a filter, run a tube from The top of the humidifier the your fruiting chamber poke lots of holes in your Fruiting chamber and only one hole in the bottom for a drain. Run it 24/7, the chamber will Be completely full of smoke/ humidity. Fan about once or twice a day. Wouldn't hurt to Put a small fan blowing of your chamber as well. But take out the perlite if you use this method. this has always worked great for me and cakes have always yielded 10-15 grams one the first flush. Would be a good idea to dunk (about 4-6 hours) and roll cakes again before hand. Try this on the next cakes that you put in your chamber. Hope this helps, good luck.

you're so wrong. that's not appropriate for a mono-shotgun. you have a fan running and a humidifier running, they basically cancel each other out. the same thing can be obtained by misting once a day. save yourself the trouble of humidifier mess and expenses

I will post some pictures of how that one has been growing tomorrow, I am going to be out all day and night and the light is off right now.
This is probably a good time to ask, are mushrooms like Marijuana where they become stressed if their light schedule is interrupted. Marijuana doesn't like any light when the lights are off, I sometimes have to open the door in the room they are in and some light leaks in for a few seconds at most.

haha its becoming a common trend on this thread
he's asking about the affect of light mushrooms breathe just us monkeys... so the introduction of oxygen is a must. It's a pretty simple idea.
the OP was confused on the affect of light on mushrooms. they are unable to carry out photosynthesis but create cellulose = fungi kingdom

I also recall RR saying that fungi draw energy from light, not grow towards it. So the more light the better to a certain extent in the right spectrum. The biggest pinning triggers are FAE, light, and evaporation.
Other than that they just need humidity, moisture, and fresh air for growing big right? Light isn't that important after they pin, that is just my understanding, am I right. I know that light is beneficial at all stages but I have also seen some good pics of ones grown in little to no light situations after the pinset forms with nice results.(after all they do most of their growing at night when I shut the light off)

they can't do photosynthesis, no chlorophyll they aren't a plant but I recall RR saying that they still draw energy from the light somehow and it is a major pinning trigger, don't know why

So great news one of the cakes that I put in the FC 5 days ago have a mushroom growing out the bottom of the cake , I didn't snag a pic of it I just now noticed it after I went back in there to fan again. But still nothing on the other two cakes that have been in their for 11 days.
But here is the mushroom that I have timeline of, let me know if everything seems to be normal. I have no idea how fast cubes mature, and I am trying to make sure my RH is ok. Looking at it they seem to be growing fast.
So here it is on 3-2-11

Now on 3-3-11

and 30min ago

I hope the humidity isn't to low that pin really hasn't developed that fast its a little bigger now but not by much.
Here is the pin higher up on the same cake it poped up on 3-2

And if I get 5 grames off all 5 cakes it was worth it, thats all I am looking for. Just a real good and ill be happy.

Yea I wont be able to trip for a couple of weeks I am having my tonsils out Wednesday, I am kinda pumped to get them out but its gonna be a crappy ass recovery.
So I am just gonna dry them and hopefully by the time I am healed up I will have some more fruits that are fresh cause I really wanted to eat some fresh mushies.

So a update, my biggest mushroom's veil started to split today. I guess I should harvest it late tonight before I go to bed. I imagine if I left it over night from what I read there could be pollen all over.

That little pin on that cake hasn't really moved it doesn't look aborted but im confused as to why its going so slow. Its much higher on the cake so I wonder if my RH is messed up since I only seem to have mushies on the bottom of the cakes.

Tonight I am going to dunk and re roll the two cakes that are not pining at all. Should I try and get as much of that verm off as I can, and what about the pieces the Mycelium grew into I assumed I shouldn't tear them off and let them be.
In two weeks hopefully I will be recovered enough to munch on them, I will definitely let you guys know how they turned out.
Just read about the lemon tek never done anything like that I should definitly be if I consumed what I am getting of these two cakes Im such a light weight.
I have triped off of a small cap the size of a penny. And im not skinny or unhealthy, played hockey all my life im not buff but I have a good amount of muscle.
Is this a ok yield for a first timer, I feel like its tiny but like I said earlier I am happy with whatever.
I just know I am doing something wrong some of these cakes on here are filled with mushrooms all over the cakes and I only have them at the bottom. Except for the one cake that had a pin on the side that I put in the FC and that pin that isn't doing anything.
I would be so happy if a nice sized mushroom grew out the top side of the cake.

The cake in the second to last picture is upside down, I accidently set it in their on the wrong side.
You need to set them upright the direction they were inside of the jars correct?
Do you think I should leave it or flip it. It actually has pins forming on it I dont want to touch it but I dont want to do anything wrong.
