I had the privileged of getting to know Mr. Mushrooms a little. His unique life experiences and intense passion made me question some of my values and i am a better person because of him.
Reasoning, from my experiences, tells me there are no gods. Its because of people like Matt that i choose to reject reason.
"I give you this one thought to keep - I am with you still - I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on snow, I am sunlight on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awake in the morning's hush I am the swift, uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not think of me as gone - I am with you still - in each new dawn."

I have a full sheet of BLG spores from MM. I will dedicate every cult attempt and the spread of BLG's on west coast to this man! He will live on!
Death is but another step, another change; there need not be any sadness in this space.
cheers to MM

Out of the thousands of Shroomery users, he was perhaps the one who has touched me most over the years. Not only because of his profound knowledge, but because of his willingness to learn at an age on which other's only expect to teach, and because of his profound respect for everyone and everything around him. Indeed, I have never had contact with anyone who so obviously and naturally was at peace with the cosmos.
Those who know me are aware that I'm a down-to-earth, pragmatic person who does not use hippie-talk much. But every single word in this post is heartfelt and sincere.
A void remains in the Shroomery society. A void which we cannot and will not fill, and a void that will serve as a monument for a luminous soul. What remains, is us. What remains, are the hollow men.
This is the way the world ends. This is the way the world ends. Not with a bang but a whimper. - T.S. Eliot

This is very sad to hear. I haven't been here very long, but MM was one person that gave me help from the begining. I feel lucky and blessed with everything I learned from him. I'll be following Ryath in the spreading of spores received from MM last fall.

i also was really suprized that i never heard back from him after sending him some c.smithii samples to work on - - now its TOTALLY clear i took tooo long to send em - dammit

I had a few exchanges with him late last year, sharing an interesting pan ps. Spore print.
May his family and friends remember him, and know he was respected and will be missed on shroomry.
Peace

RIP.
Although I didn't recognize him at first online, we actually did know each other. Before he moved east he lived in the Denver area, and was a regular at meetings of the Colorado Mycological Society, where we met and had many passionate discussions.
He had a rare enthusiasm for the hobby of mycology.
He will be missed.
Happy mushrooming!
