Amsterdam trip - a bit worried

I have finally booked an Amsterdam trip for me and a few buddies. The trip is booked for October. I am now hearing rumors that tourist might not be able to partake in the coffee shop fun sometime soon? What is this all about?! When might this take place?
I am going to be pissed off if I fully pay for this trip and we get there and can't smoke. Anybody have details?
Also, when I went there in 07 I was able to buy mushrooms at the smart shops. What's the update on that? It's illegal ti buy in smartshops now? Is it still easy to find there? WTF are philosophers stones? Someone said you can still buy those.
Thanks!

Philosopher stones, truffels... A psychedelic but much milder then mushrooms. Mushrooms can't be sold anymore but I know a few shops in Holland (though not in Amsterdam) that sell chocolate bars filled to the brim with mush . It's illegal because some (dumb) french girl ingested mushrooms and fell off a bridge.
Anyway what you are talking about is because of DRUG tourists from Belgium, France and so forth that come buy weed. The Dutch government isn't happy with it but don't be afraid it's just scare-tactics... You can still buy weed (especially in Amsterdam, the city council flips the finger they won't close down shops )
I've been here for three years and only like a month ago i've tried mushrooms (INSTALOVE!)

Let's see.... The atmosphere, the culture, the museums, the relaxation of being able to socially smoke in peace, the fact that its Europe and not fucking New Jersey.
Lots of people on here seem to hate on Amsterdam weekend trips. Not sure why. I see a lot of " you can get better weed in Cali", and "Amsterdam is over-rated". Cool. Don't go. As for myself, I like to travel. I think Amsterdam is awesome. I rather smoke there and meet awesome people than sit on my couch and watch TV every day of my life.
That's what's in Amsterdam.

considering youve not been to Amsterdam yet, id hold back on the atmosphere and relaxation bits.. its a frat party more than anything else. just because its in Europe doesnt mean it isnt a shit hole.
if you are looking for a drug vacation more than anything else i think youd be better off in Portugal.

I don't think it's entirely accurite to say that stones are a much milder psychedelic than mushrooms. They contain the same active ingredients, and in fact fresh stones are more potent by weight than fresh cubensis. When dried they are less potent than cubensis (cuz cubensis lose a lot more water weight in drying)

People don't flock to Portugal for that reason though. I could imagine being a local in Amsterdam and just being sick to death of tourists but it must be fun/funny at times also. I here Lisbon is decent for good times also though.
The thing about Amsterdam though is a lot of the people you come across are in the same boat as you and it's just nice and relaxing. Can be as hectic as you want too I'd imagine.

I hear there are some smaller towns in Holland that are much more chill and still have all the goods.

that sounds like a positive thing to me..
youd get a more genuine trip and a lot less of a Disneyland-type of experience.
but whatever.. RP already booked his trip..

Haven't been because I was stuck for time but I know this to be true. I wouldn't even name towns just in case they get swamped like Amsterdam. I know some towns already have the no tourist rule in coffee shops though.

Depends what parts I suppose. There are a lot of resort type areas there. You know, strips with bars, clubs, dirt cheap drinks, people on the street trying to entice you in places, people on the street selling watches/coke/hash/sunglasses.
