Hunting Psilocybe cubensis in Georgia

I have started studying this type of mushroom. I live in south Georgia and I would like to find some of these to make prints of and of course EAT! But what I would like to know is it possible to find these any where else other than a cow field? If the answer is no what shrooms can I find in the forests around me?
Thank in advance,
C10Wn.

I'm from South georgia as well and I go hunting all the time. Don't know very much about mushrooms that dwell in the woods but I'm very educated on P. Cubensis

Would you be willing to teach me some stuff via IM programs like AIM or MSN. I would be very appreciative if you would, espcially sense we are from the same part of the world.

Btw...cubes only grow out of cow dung no you cannot find them in the woods however you may find Gyms and amanita during the cooler part of the season.

Alright well that saves me some time. Do you have any knowledge on Gyms and Amanita's that you can share with me? We can chat via PM or IM also.

Gyms like to grow off rotten wood or soil where wood has decomposed recently. In the Official Florida 2011 Thread in this Forum, you can observe the growth rate of Gym pins with Bloodwoorm's pictures. Amanita amerimuscaria are mycorrhizal primarily with Pinus spp. from my observations, but so I hear they are also mycorrhizxal with certain hardwoods.

Well In my location I've spotted a few laughing gyms growing near creek beds where it's constantly damp on the trunks of rotting trees. I've only been able to spot them a few times though . They grow in clusters and were not very big in size and there were only a few that hadn't been overwhelmed by bugs munching down on them. Easiest to find during early fall for me. The fields are where it's at IMO.

Thanks for the pics, I am going to go hunting this weekend, which strain should I mostly look for. I want something to try for my first time. Also I'll be in a forest with mostly oaks and some pine.

Well I would say your best bet will be the gyms. In another month you should try scouting out some SAFE fields and try searching for cubes. The weather is starting to get a little humidity about it already this is a good thing. When you go hunting take a camera and take pictures. Post your finds BEFORE deciding to ingest anything. Look forward to seeing what you come up with. Btw, where about do you live if you don't mind me asking...

I live in southwest GA.
I have only found gyms, I've only been hunting for around 6 months though.
I don't ever go onto cow fields or anything of the sort since its trespassing and I'm on felony probation with other charges pending... that's the last thing I need.
I have a very nice setup of woods with a creek behind my house, all sorts of awesome places. I said I only found gyms... but I have found LOTS of gyms, wish I would have taken more pics.
Anywaysss, good luck. There are mushrooms out around where I'm at because of the recent weather.
