Another Tek Popularity Poll
    #1405614 - 03/24/03 10:50 AM (13 years, 8 months ago)

Magash posted a poll that I thought would make for very interesting results. He was going to make a few changes, and evidently needed a mod's help to do so. At any rate I'm going to copy him. So, from what you've gathered overhearing hipster conversation in coffeehouses and barrooms, what do people grow on?

I think everyone would tell you that dung produces the largest yields, and perhaps the most potent fruits

Here is a horse poo pictorial tutorial by Roadkill. This guy I know has no experience w/ cow dung, but, and the upshot is they're about evenly magnificent, has read quite a few debates on the subject of horse v. cow dung. Whatever is easiest for you to get ahold of . Casings are not that difficult at all...look around for some teks.

I have seen much better yields (potency/density/size/abundance) with pure cow dung than anything else. Psilocybe cubensis do not naturally grow on horse manure.

Im sure a mixture of straw and dung wouldnt be a bad idea either...the straw could keep the dung from completely being compacted.

This guy I know compacted his dung from the top, and noticed that the bottom, or the less compacted substrate (?), is colonizing more slowly. Is there some other reason for this? Thanks.
-Che
P.S. He put jars directly in the poo that will later be filled with h2o/h2o2 for bubbler air exchange, and is able to watch colonization at different levels because of this .

Just wondering... how do you compact the top, without compacting the bottom?

There are reasons why the less compacted will colonize slower. The same reasons why you need to compress your straw fully during the colonziation of the straw.

Thats an interesting idea of setting jars in there..,, I donno, I dont know if that is really necissary, but, I guess its just all the fun in experimenting.

IF you have you're entire bottom layer of your fruiting chamber full with a casing of dung, the moisture that is created from evaporation will be enough humidity, and the fish tank pump isint really needed. A few polyfill stuffed holes will be sufficent.!

You're right...I guess they're just windows to what's going on beneath the surface of his poo at this point. He assumes that the top of the substrate is more compacted simply because this is where he was pressing, the substrate is about 4.5" deep and it is colonizing much more quickly. I dunno...would the jars be at all beneficial for later flushes? Thanks.

Thats because cows shit is alot wetter than horse poo when it comes out their ass...ever seen both take a dump?

Horse shit dries out faster too.

By pasturizing horse poo you are making it a usable substrate.
Horse poo and compost blows away cow shit and straw...IME

Yeah, thanks, man . I f#%$in' forgot compost, though. Sorry to bite your poll (that doesn't sound right), but I was definitely curious. Like I didn't expect grains to be so high.
