Getting off the sauce
    #14054393 - 03/02/11 12:35 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

Ive been an everyday drinker for the past few months.  I drink quite a bit- usually about a pint of jager and several beers(often times i drink more than that).  Ive gained a good amount of weight, lost a considerable amount of physical strength, and ive become lazy and depressed.  Im gonna lay off the booze for a while and maybe smoke a little good weed here and there for a euphoric break. I gotta get my ass back into the gym and reach 300lbs in bench press again.  I went to the gym a few days ago and could barely get 225lbs up 4 times.
My endurance for running is nonexistent.  No physical exercise for months has fucked me up.  I feel fat, slow, lazy, unmotivated, depressed and physically unappealing to my gf.  This winter along with the poor health of my mother and father really got to me.  I want to set up an online business ive been planning but i have been so unmotivated. Or i want another job or to go to school but i feel like i cant due to my folks.  They always tell me not to let them hold me back.  Warm weather is on its way :feelsgoodman:  Im gonna get my life going again.  Anybody here in a similar position?  Im mostly writing this as a therapeutic exercise, but id love to hear others share their experiences and opinions.

I'm not an everyday drinker but I'd usually have 2/3 cruel sessions a week. Went two weeks just there without a drink and felt a ton better. Smoked a lot more weed in those two weeks too though.

I'd say maybe improve your diet as well as I doubt your eating too well if you're drinking all the time.

Not too hard getting back into a routine once you push yourself.

Good luck:thumbup:

I still drink everyday, but not as much as i used to since i got a job now and have to drive every day. I have been drinking every day for years not months, kinda used to it now, idk if i can quit. for example i had 4 liters of beer and few shots till this time, still drinking more beer.

i've come to the conclusion (entirely for myself and my view of things & life & people) that
people who drink regularly (and/or too much) are unhappy in their lives. that's just how i
interpret it. i was pretty unhappy once and it was perfectly mirrored in my partying and
drinking behavior. once i realised, or let's say once i stated this for myself, it was pretty
easy to cease drinking. i almost never drink alcohol and i came to despise it and especially
people who advocate & glorify it.
it's kinda psychological, really, because if you do think "people that drink are unhappy"
u'll naturally stay away from the booze because u dont want to be unhappy.
dunno if that sounds stupid, that's just what i came to think and it doesnt really have to
do with knowledge or experience.

of course, alcohol is also the #1 drug in absolute death numbers, probably makes you stupid,
destroys your body, is addictive and some other unpleasant things. i sure can't understand
why so few people realize the danger of that drug & the incoherence of the "drug of war"
while distributing this stuff. (sure, "it's part of the culture", but that's no good reason,
and it's also not the main reason - that's money)

Ya you called it, ive been eating garbage lately.  I cook pretty healthy dinners for the family but i eat a lot of junk in between time.  Gonna start eating lean, cut out the sweets and carbs.  I need to start eating breakfast again, i dont seem to when i drink.

Ive always drank a lot, just not as often as i have been these last few months.  Im trying to not get caught at that point where i feel like i cant quit.  Thats why im severely cutting down now.

I've recently found myself in similar circumstances. Pending a very stressful event last March, followed by consistent sadness right after a move until about three weeks ago I was drinking almost all day every day.

The withdrawal can be deadly, seizures and DT might become an issue, and if this becomes bad they can be deadly. A small weaning with benzodiazapine can work wonders, (although this creates the opportunity to trade one vice for another), and Gabapentin has been incredibly helpful for myself in staving off withdrawal symptoms.

It's a difficult adjustment and I wish you the best, not waking up with a hangover everyday truly is an amazing feeling after a heavy alcohol addiction. You will definitely want to watch out for any possible triggers, and while exercise and diet need to be supplemented you will want to take it slow at the beginning. Don't push yourself too hard.

Good luck, I truly wish you the best. It's all in your hands.
