Easy solution, dry half in dehydrator and the other half air dry with desiccant. Compare that way then figure if it genetics or drying method. if its genes just start over and isolate

I use my convection oven @ 120-130F. It works great.

heat degrades active ingredients I highly advise against using any methods that use heat

the amount of heat and time required to degrade the active ingredients is, as to my knowledge, unkown. I personally dry at 150F for 2.5-3 hours with no noticeable potency loss.

this is old and outdated info, its been discussed many many times..
dehydrators do not cause potency loss, no matter what heat setting you use..
ppl use ovens to dry their shrooms with no potency losss...RR cooks his on the grill at 1200 degree's and doesn't lose potency..

I dry at 135 degrees in my dehydrator and the potency is fine. Some of the thicker stems take up to 10 hours to get cracker dry but it does nothing noticable to the electyric bill either and I use it pretty much daily.
I never tried any other drying method but I never will either because these are so nice and easy, I highly recomend them for this hobby...plus you get to make your own kick ass jerky!

I've just been placing my shrooms in a mesh strainer, and placed on top of a fan... 72 hours later, cracker dry.
I also put an exacto slice into the big, thick ones to allow moisture to escape.

RR will report that he grills (or grilled) his active fruits, and that this had no effect on their potency.

So if you don't bring the heat up to pasteurizes it. Aww it's dead and the nutrients are there..What kind of heat do you need to kill that???

All I know, is once I baked shrooms into some brownies... They had absolutely ZERO effect, and was a waste of time and mushrooms.
Since then I have avoided heat + mushies.

Very nice thread! I didn't know that the heat degredation was a myth and that one could just dehydrate using an oven; very helpful and good to know.

As far as any evidence has ever shown, the molecule is stable at high temperatures. RR grills shrooms, as mentioned above. People make tea or pizza. People extract using boiling ethanol in lab glass.
Lots of other organic molecules are heat-stable, from sugar to mescaline. So it's not terribly surprising that psilocybin is.

info on actives' melting point:
http://www.erowid.org/chemicals/psilocybin/psilocybin_chemistry.shtml
Cloneufc recently posted his experience with an oven:

dehydrators wont be a problem. Ovens are only a problem if the goodies are left in for too long.

Oh, I knew I had seen that somewhere!
185C = about 365F, 220C = about 425F. So baking gets you right into the melting zone, and damage to the magic is plausible, especially with a longer duration of heating.

Ah, ok then that explains what happened to me when I baked them. Good to know.
Now I just chew'em up with a swig of beer in my mouth. Takes care of the taste just fine.

If the temps stay below the 120F, at the drying process, they dont even bruise. If you go higher with the temp they maybe turn azure/dark black but they will still rock. An Electrical Oven or better an Convection Oven is the best choice IMO if you dont own a dehydrator. Dont worry about potency lost, just try it. It's easy as making french fries.
