15 PSI vs 20 PSI

Who here sterilizes at 20psi? Theoretically it should require 25% less time to achieve the same results. I usually only do it if I'm running late and want to shave a few minutes.
If you have some experience with this post the times that work for you.

I try to hit the theoretical curve with every PC run, Over PC-ing liquid media causes the sugars to caramelize, which inhibits myc growth, grains explode and wood turns dark, which I assume are the sugars again caramelizing, I know the temptations of pushing for time, but this is a hobby where patience is a virtue and input =output.
Try some experiments with all factors being equal except the overpressure, time factor and see what results your yield, I would be curious to hear of those results.

Sure, I have some rye jars cooking right now. I'll do a side by side vs the standard 15psi. I use 300 mL rye per jar, soaked for 12 hours, boiled for 10 minutes.

The jars were PCed for either 70mins @ 20psi or 90mins @ 15psi. The jars on the left of each set are as they come out of the PC, the ones on the right have been shaken.
Looks the same to me, no increases in popped grain and no color change. We're only talking about a 5°C increase here. If I notice decreased yields or increased contamination I'll let you know.

I've sterilized at 20 psi for years. I've even forgotten about loads a few times and they've gone five or six hours and were fine. RR

OK, experience is the best teacher, and since I tend to go with the book until evidence shows otherwise, maybe I will relax a little and not get so freaked out of my pc goes over a little, I will still hold to the idea tht it is detrimental to liquid media, I have proven that many times both in agar and in liquid media made for fermentation process.
