HELP. MonoTub advice needed

Hey guys, im gonna give the mono-tub "tek" a second try..last time i made 3 tubs, only one of them fruited, and it wasnt even a full canopy,, the rest were contaminated before they reached 100% colonization. might have been because i colonized my tubs in a black trash bag with the holes taped up?? not sure ? " I was very sterile too.. i just READ that its not good to colonize the mono-tubs in high levels of c02 ??? so, that might have been my problem when i first made these tubs.. once i started casing rye, i had great results, and just stuck with it. i also built an awesome self automated system that i havent seen anyone on the forum use..no fanning or misting... but ive moved into a new spot, and i cant keep the same set-up..ive only got a small closet now. so, i believe tubs or bags is what im looking at.. im gonna make some agar plates and get my gt strain goin.. hopefully thatll help me get a more roapy growth, which should mean a better chance of a full canopy. because, last time i used lc to knock up my rye, instead of some rhizo wedges..so, ill see if this makes a difference.. would someone please explain to me what exactly they do to get the best preformance on a monotub ? if someone could help me, ive got some more questions.. thanks psilo

I've yet to get to the mono tubs..I've got a GH rockin' ATM but my signature (the AMU Q&A link) is a fantastic place to start.
Also, we're currently having the discussion of to bag or not to bag...as in place the whole tub in a bag rather than line the interior of your tub w/ a bag to help w/ side pinning here https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/14043924/fpart/1
I don't think you'll have any questions after reading the first few pages of the AMU Q&A + the 3-4 pages of the bag colonization discussion.

Perhaps thats the reason ey. Also why put the mono in a trashbag AND tape the holes up. If you said you were very sterile then why did the monotub contaminate. If you fully colonized you're spawn, contamination risk ain't that high anymore. So you're spawn was probably already contaminated.
Why don't you start telling us what type of bulk substrate you used for starters. Not to mention explaining you're super duper failure of an apparatus lol. If noone used it as of yet then there's probably a good reason for it.
Second if you're isolating rhizomorhpic growth be sure to let them all fruit to see which one is the best fruiter.

the only reason i taped up the holes and put the tub in a trash bag durring colonization, was because thats what i read to do on damion's 50/50 tek .. and it wasnt my spawn that was contaminated, they were all white and smelt great..it had to have been in the substrate.. i used coir,verm,coffee..and pasturized it in jars.. but, maybe it wasnt long enough ?? but i did all this last year, i had moved on to a whole different tek that was producing alot of weight for me.. And the automated system i was telling you about worked like a charm..you misunderstood what i said, virus1824. I didnt use my selfautomated system for the monotubs..it was for my cased grain set-up.. which is way diff. then the monotub tek. all i was asking was for some advice on this tek.. so ..thanx TODLOW, ill def. read your stuff !! ill hit you up if i got any questions..

You'll be golden brotha...keep the tape over the holes but ditch the trash bag. There's plenty of room to experiment w/ the hole thing too...dense poly, not so dense...tape, etc...the list really goes on...

todlow: so is it true that my substrate will colonize faster if i stuff the holes with poly-fill from the very start, rather than waiting till all the substrate is colonized? im gonna run an air purifier in the closet, set on a timer. so itll help a bit with mold control.. do you case you tubs ?

Some swear by poly in the holes, other swear by taping them. I use a GH so my tubs are clear 6qt shoebox tubs w/ either 1 or 2 3/4" holes w/ Synthetic filter disks siliconed on.
Nope, I don't case, but I don't have an RH problem either. That'd be the main reason for casing...RH problems
You shouldn't have to worry about mold w/ colonizing bulk substrate. It's extremely contam resistant, some people even mix up their spawn & bulk w/ their bare hands...I wouldn't recommend the fan, unless you kept it in the room outside the closet. It may cause too much GE, which would switch it over to FAE...
I'm currently running an experiment w/ my lids. I have 1 w/ both holes 1 w/ 1 hole & 2 w/out any holes...we'll see who the winner is in a week

Then don't put unnessary information in the middle of you're story if it doesn't got to do with anything, kingpsilo281. but good luck or something.

nice.. yea, its very humid where i live.. so, i dont need to case, but maybe after each flush a very, very thin layer..it helps to fill in the holes that are made from the previous harv.. so you use a gh, huh? i still have 2 gh's a built..but, ive got no more room bro.. ive gotta switch to tubs, its something that i havent taken the time to perfect, but ill pick it up quickly, like everything else i like.. yea, i miss my gh/humidifier set-up..it worked great !! so, whats your best strain overall.. ? mine is golden teachers...they are great all around !!

Haven't messed around much w/ strains yet...waiting to get my flowhood up & running...
I had 1 GT syringe that I blew on 10 jars due to bad grain prep.
I've had success w/ Pe6, KSSS & Z-Strain so far...I have a bunch of other prints, but I keep doing G2G so I have no reason to even open them yet.
Actually, footprint speaking, you can grow more mushies in monotubs than GH's...I'm building a spare room ATM in the basement for fruiting & I think I'll end up tearing down the GHs & bulk humidifier here in a month or so...I liked the idea of "set it & forget it" w/ the GH, but, now that I've done my research, monotubs are the same way...haha...
