rock wool as a casing ingredient

So i've noticed im running low on my verm stash. I notice ive got access to a ton of this mineral wool home insulaton. its the same stuff pot growers can use to start their seedlings in. From studying botany i know that rock wool is a little alkaline so i would need to balance the ph but the question remains. . .
Will rock/mineral wool work in a casing?
I'm going to try it anyway out of sake of experiment, but it would be nice to know of any previous experience.
Thanks

Im curious about your experiment

Maybe we're from the same area...all shops here are telling me that it is the end of the stock of verm. None will be able to have new bags cause the source is ending. I'd like to avoid to buy soil bags to remove one by one all the verm pieces

Im unsure of the ph of virgin wool but every time ive considered starting seedlings in years past, i know you have to soak the stuff in water of pH=5 overnight to balance out the alkalinity.

....Im surprised your area is cutting back their supplies as spring is only a few weeks away. lots of gardeners will be buying that shit up to start seedlings. I dont really go to shopping centers anymore for verm. . . theres a nice landscape supply shop a few towns away and I bought a 50 lb bag 3 years ago. cant believe its lasted me this whole time.

yea im curious here 2. Haven't seen anyone using it and can't find a reason for it not work work. in addition with water i think you could use the ph- or ph+ you find using marijuana growing to balance ph but not sure.

Interesting experiment. I never saw someone doing it and i dont see a reason why it would not work. It can be possible that it may work though.
Keep on posting your results, it would be cool if it really should work!

I tried this several years ago. I could never get the mycelium to colonize the rockwool, even when I broke it up and spread it out. That doesn't mean don't try, it just means don't get your hopes up. Mycelium wants to digest cellular structures, and rockwool isn't natural. RR

Haha if it is, we're all a bit up the creek. Not quite screwed, but slowed down.

Vermiculite isn't going anywhere unless people just stop buying it. When a store stops carrying a product, it's because it's taking up shelf space and not generating enough sales to pay for that space. RR
